Another update and it might help someone else, I took the driver’s side valve cover off and noticed one of the rockers on an exhaust valve for the cylinder with no compression wasn’t right. It was at a slight angle and resting against one of the bearing pillars. I tweaked it with a screwdriver and it pinged back in to place and I heard the valve snap shut, I had been holding the valve open slightly.
I tried a compression test on the cylinder without much hope and much to my surprise it was perfect, I checked the offending rocker couldn’t find anything wrong with it and everything seemed to be good.
So I put it back together with new injector seals and it’s running absolutely perfect, I can’t really believe the valve didn’t hit the piston but I’ve done over a hundred miles in it so far and everything is fine.
I don’t know how the rocker got dislodged other than me doing it when I refitted the cam, but I’m sure I checked them.
I feel I’ve dodged a bullet and can’t really believe it’s fixed but fingers crossed.
