Are you using xp or win7 / 8 ?
I too struggled for ages with drivers on my old Xp laptop but as soon as I tried on a win 7 laptop it recognised there was a new cable and off it went to install a driver itself.
perhaps un install driver and let windows do its thing

I just wish it would all work on my Mac - that usually just does it without any problems.
If you are trying to this on a mac, in dual boot via windows, don't bother, will never work. On windows with KKL attached, go to devices, look for the kkl, remove drivers, than remove device, remove all webasto software and start all over with the software you've downloaded. You either have a cr"p kkl, or usb-port because it has to work.[/quote]RLD Sump Guard

DiscoJake,
I'm on Win 7 and tried all the usual things to get ittto work. It recognises and installs but it says it's on a COM Port but it doesn't need that on the latest WTT Job sent me. The KKL came with a mini disc with Drivers.
Job,
Not trying on Mac, I just joked that I wished it would.
I've done the uninstall, shut down, reinstall a few times. I'm thinking it may be the KKL I got. I'll order up another although this one works fine with the Vag Com software that was on the mini disc.

Robbies earlier advice to use a serial port cable worked for me. Luckily I still have an old Dell laptop with serial port available, left from tuning LPG in my old D2.
I did find that the mini disc did not download drivers properly, and I downloaded them again from the fleabay sellers link - no probs from then on. Maybe worth trying to find similar download for your cable, or generic drivers before dumping the cable?

I doubt the Webasto v3 software will have drivers for all the OBD adapters, they probably include drivers for the genuine Webasto lead. This may 'accidentally' work if the chips in your lead are the same as a Webasto one!
Sloss did you mention which lead you have? You probably need to download newer drivers and not use the mini CD.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Morning Martin,
The KKL lead is VAG KKL from futuregadgets03. It doesn't tell me the chip inside. Maybe I'll have a wee look see.
I did download a newer driver but Device Manager said the newest driver is already installed although it still reports Code 31 error.
I'll delete/remove everything this evening and start over.Stew,

OK, I have found it on eBay and it looks identical to the one I bought (for 31p more!). Mine has a CH340G inside, so let's assume yours does too
[I think all these ~£5 adapters are now using the (very much cheaper) CH340G chip - the FTDI version is around £10]
Windows 7 should install the drivers automatically, without needing the disc at all - mine did.
However, you may be stuck with a faulty driver now, I don't know if you can roll back to the Microsoft one
I have delved into the Chinese manufacturer's site (their English language version has no drivers) and downloaded the latest driver for you: http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/CH340G_Driver
Lots of USB-based kit has switched to these chips due to the cost so there are lots of instances all over the web of getting these drivers sorted being a problem.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

You are truly amazing
Pressure is now on me and my minimal IT skills to make this work
Hopefully eldest son will be about to 'do the business' for me.

Still no connection to WTT.
Binned all the previous Drivers, removed software etc., etc.
Rebooted Laptop and reinstalled the KKL Doofer with the Drivers Martin kindly provided.
Device manager reported a successful install but on running WTT it would not connect.
Another KKL I think but I'm away a few days so it'll need to wait.Stew,

Which version of WTT - 2 or 3?
Are you getting the green bar travelling across in WTT, or an instant "no connection"?06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

I got WTT version 3 from Jobster, it offers to use v2 or v3. I was hoping the KKL would see it ok.
WTT reports at bottom right that the there is no connection.
No amount of swearing or cussing seemed to help.
Points to the KKL really, do you agree?Stew,

Don't forget the whole nasty business of FTDI using Windows Update last October to brick all the copycat FTDI chips.

Personally I would uninstall WTT v3 and install the v2 linked in the wiki.
I have not tried v3 so can't help with it. The main reason I have not used it is because it seems to be very bloated at 60-odd MB instead of 3MB for v2.14, and 2.14 works for me just fine.
WTT v3 seems to require its own driver app installed first, who knows if this works with the KKL adapters, it might be a way of locking down WTT to their own adapters.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
