Hi all who have decated their D3.

I already have the decat pipe lying here to go into my D3. My concern in the moment is that my 2008 D3 has a temp sensor fittet just before the cat. But the decat pipe came without a connection.
So what have you done to your temp sensor? Have you welded in a thread or did you simply disconnect the sensor without any issues regarding error codes or something else?

Although a moderator has ruled that the posts on this thread are within the site rules, I am still surprised that someone looking to carry out an offence can “legitimately” ask for help to carry it out on here, although I am allowed to debate it with you.

Heck, there have even been moderators on here that make "suggestions" about carrying out an offence, so it must be within the rules Shocked :

Have you priced a new downpipe + cat recently?

Over £1000 for a new one from LR. Easy to see why they get removed...

Sure, it's costly, but I don't believe that money saving is accepted as a legitimate legal defence (under either the 1988, or 1998 acts) and it does seem to miss the point of why it's there in the first place.

By coincidence, £1,000 is also the level of fine under the '98 act, while the '88 act has no limit.

An unhelpful justification for those that commit the offence on their cars.

How many people who break into and/or steal our cars get prosecuted?

Probably a small number in either case, but it doesn't help legitimise either choice.

Would you knowingly break the law if it polluted, but saved you some cash and you thought that you could get away with it?

Would you fly tip in the countryside, if it saved you the cost of going to the dump/recycling centre, if you thought that you probably wouldn’t get caught?

Or is it just me?

Never realised that the Co2 emissions for the 2007 D3 was 270g, compared to the FFRR with the V8 with all the technology of a vehicle being over ten years newer it is still rated at 245g

So from the first highlighted bit, they have no idea about what octane does.

Second bit, the computer combustion chamber shouldn’t have any coolant in it anyway, so MMT and silicone will not enter the atmosphere.

And lead isn’t added to cars fuels now, as modern cars don’t run it, and those hat need lead additive won’t have a cat...

The first one should be re-worded as:

"a higher octane rating indicates that the fuel air mixture is less likely to detonate and damage the engine"

With the second, I think they are trying to say:

"coolant, containing silicate, can leak into the combustion chamber (via a failed head gasket?) and pass into the exhaust system and contaminate the catalyst".

It's also worth explaining the historical issue with lead, as the introduction of catalysts wasn't possible until tetraethyllead (possibly the most stupid and unnecessary fuel additive ever invented!) was removed from fuel.


Despite these mishaps, the article is still valid and is certainly a whole load more accurate than the flawed pub logic that's usually used as the perverse justification for removing catalysts. A functioning catalyst isn't rocker science and it's the bare minimum that an engine ought to be running to restrict the emissions of nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.
