Rear brake disc trashed, no warranty?
I have a 2 year old D4, bought new and always serviced by the supplying main dealer.
It appears that the rear o/s caliper has stuck (not sliding due to corrosion caused by dirt ingress) which made one half of a rear pad wear to the metal and trash the brake disc.
The dealer is stating that although this is a "fault", because it is a disc then it's tough luck on the warranty. So a £400 bill.
I have no issue with paying for the pads, but the discs? And if this is down to me, what can I do to prevent it from happening again? Or what should I have done to stop it in the first place?
Any advice (please).

I can't speak for LR policy but if you bought a caliper from me, it was in warranty and it stuck causing the disc & pads to be trashed then we would be paying for it.
I suggest you ask for that decision to be reviewed. The dealer will not want you complaining about them to LR without good cause so suggest they make that contact for you, if not go to customer relations yourself.Paul Redding

Thanks.
Interestingly I called LR CRC and spoke to someone that said it sounded like the discs should be covered under warranty. He then called the dealer and left a message to say it shouldn't be covered under warranty (and then went home). So I called CRC back and spoke to someone else who said he will call me back...

Pete would be my first port of call as I would certainly expect a seized caliper to be covered @ only 2 years Cheers Ian

Just had the final verdict from CRC.
This is what he said:
"The slider siezed due to ingress of water and dirt, and therefore because this is external factors you are not covered by the warranty".
This is what I heard:
"Your D4 cannot cope with the road conditions found on the school run. We will squirm out of the warranty. You can either carry on paying out £400 at random intervals if and when your D4 wheels encounter water and/or dirt, or just trade in your D4 and XF for a pair of similar Mercs".
Right now I feel like doing the latter. It's not the £400, it's the principle.

I would certainly challenge this decision. I can see no reason why the warranty would not cover it.PAGODA

Challenge and push this. It basically means your LR 4X4 designed for off road is not fit for purpose.
Get Pete@Landrover on the case.

If your sunroof leaked and ruined the trim this would be an external factor then not covered by warranty
i.e. it rained "Act of supreme being/Nature, nothing to do with Land Rover"
What a load of
Did you buy a car with a complete warranty or not? Can the water ingress be attributed to you or a "feature" of its design?

Not even £400, as this includes pads and fitting, which I am happy to pay for.
A quick Google shows that I am not the first with this, either.
If an off road vehicle cannot cope with on-road only conditions with encountering significant failures, then it is not of merchantable quality.

I would challenge that decision..
ive had caliper and discs changed under warranty on my D3 and pads and discs on the D4.
ive even had the piece of plastic trim under the car between the spare wheel and the exhaust pipes changed under warranty because it smashed to bits after an offroad excursion.
PM Pete. Duncan

The question is, how to challenge it?
I did PM Pete earlier on this morning, but he hasn't yet replied. But I doubt he can change things, because he is part of the same customer relations team that have made this decision.
I have asked the dealer to explain exactly how the water/dirt got in there, which will be interesting. Odd too, that the other wheels have had no such failure, when exposed to the same amount of water/dirt.
What I really need is an answer to the question "If this fault is down to me, what could I have done to prevent it?"
