As you'll have no doubt noticed in this thread http://disco3.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=879 it appears there are D3s out there with Fuel Burning Pre-Heaters that work as they should without needing the 'radio trick'. Unfortunately with the warmer weather around this is going to be hard to check.
I expect that this is on newer, possibly only '06 models but the only way to be sure it to establish the age of vehicles that it works in. Once we have worked out what that is we need to establish what the difference is between those and the D3s it doesn't work in 'unassisted', hopefully this will just be a difference in software versions. If you've got an older D3 but have had a recent software upgrade please try agin to see if the pre-heat is working without leaving the radio on
To keep this easily readable please only add to this thread if you have something really relevant to add. Definately add to this thread if your pre-heater works as it should, will come on after setting the timer and without leaving the radio on, please post all the following if known:
Build Date
Purchase Date
'05 or '06 model
VIN numbers, but please don't post them, PM them to Martin (hope that's okay with you Martin) then he can compile them and establish if there is a common factor
Cheers all for you help in this

Is it relevant to say that my D3 has got Pre-Cooler on the Menu as well as Pre-Heater, though I haven't been able to get it to come on even with the Radio 'trick'. Coffeecup

If your pre-heat works please indicate if the pre-cool does too

It could be important to know all your menu settings please?
You say your car is a March 2005, which is the same as my 'S' and I know mine was straight from the factory, was yours?

Well, 06 models were not being produced in April. Mine is an April 05 build - it was on the production line on 14th April for certain. The pre-heat/cool doesn't work - except with the radio. Only proved the pre-cool, due to ambient since delivery.
Also, I don't think that we've had weather cold enough to test the pre-heat since the end of April, I haven't anyway.

Just been out and 'played' with the Pre-Cool. It all works fine, with or without the Radio on. I even tried it with the A/C full on or just the three fan settings, and it still worked.
It actually continues to work when you unlock the car and open the doors, it only appears to stop when you turn the key in the ignition.
I tried the Pre-Heat and it seemed to go through the same process of turning itself on, but I guess it isn't cold enough to work a the moment.
If someone could tell me how to find out what 'build' the car is, and what version of software I have loaded I will supply that information. Needs to be done today as going to the dealers tomorrow for the suspension work, and they may re-load or re-set something. Coffeecup

Can you lads describe where the fuel burning heater is located and which light we are talking about and also how to get into the settings menu.
I would like to see if any of this works on the sport and try to find out how similar the two cars software and systems are.

Biggles, with the ignition on, vehicle stopped, cycle through the trip computer pages until you come to Settings Menu (it only shows when the vehicle is stopped).
Once in the Menu, use the Fwd/Bwd buttons on the steering wheel to cycle through the setting options. Pre-heat/cool is the first set you come to.
Suggest you take a look in your manual if you were not aware of this menu.

Winger,
Just been out in the car park, Ignition on car not running.
Scrolled through the settings menu, as instructed and in my menu I don t see any pre heat/ cool menu. All the others are there lazy entry, mirror dip auto lock, speed warning etc.
Any thoughts.Just popped over from the dark side.

Yes, Land Rover have removed it from your menu (or rather didn't make the mistake of putting it there in the first place!).
Does your owner manual refer to any cabin pre-heat system? Don't confuse that with the FBH (you will have one of those, but it also works to speed up coolant temperature in winter - below 6 degs C ambient)
