Parrot MKI 9200 Screen Display on SatNav Screen

- This Parrot handsfree kit comes with a 2.4" TFT screen.
- Now I am guessing that the screen takes a PAL or NTSC video feed.
- Some folks on here (Wiggs included) has used a GVIF unit to display a reversing camera on the SatNav screen.
- Therefore I see no reason why the SatNav screen can't be used for the Parrot as well !!

Thoughts?

As the GVIF interface costs a lot more than the Parrot kit it would be an expensive mod if it worked just to see names & numbers on the satnav screen Confused

The Parrot screen connection is USB so I'm afraid you can't do as you would like.

You can connect it directly to your PC to transfer files to the SD card.

Just for a Parrot, yes I agree. But if you are adding a reverse camera as well...makes good sense to me.

Methley - I'm talking about the video connection that comes from the blue parrot box to drive the screen display. Seems rather odd to be using USB to transfer a video signal. I realise that you can chuck an SD card into the display to play music, and I can see that being a USB connection.

I think, Wiggs or others will correct me if I am wrong, that to display the Rear Camera you have to go into the diagnostic menu. Do you really want to do this everytime you make or recieve a call?

It would be fine if the screen switched when a call came in, but otherwise it sounds like a lot of engineering for very little gain, the parrot screens look smart anyway.

That's because there's no video signal. It's usb honest!

When you remove it from the mount you'll see the mini usb connector underneath.

There would be no reason to use a composite or RGB signal to send video from the interface to the Parrot display. It would make more sense to use a cheaper digital interface direct to the screen with the key control. The scaling is way too small on the Parrot to make a analogue signal viable.

Stu - You are correct. And also wrong. This is where the GVIF box fits in. The SatNav DVD player under the passenger seat sends its video out in digital form as per a standard called GVIF (check it out on Wikipedia). Now if you were to disconnect the video output lead on the SatNav DVD and put this GVIF box in the way your SatNav will still work. However, the GVIF box also has PAL/NTSC video inputs which can be selected manually or if a trigger wire is wired to a reverse light. So with a reverse camera fitted to the car going to the GVIF box, when this source is selected the box converts the analogue signal to GVIF, and internally switches to this source instead of the SatNav. The SatNav display still gets a GVIF signal and doesnt know whats going on !

Make sense?
