Adding additional aux sockets
Hi everyone, this forum is brilliant. This is my first post although ive been looking through the topics for ages...
Is it possible to add an additional aux socket taking the feed from the one in the rear of the centre console?
Ive searched the forum but cannot find an answer elsewhere. (TDV6 S)
Thanks.

Depends on where you are going to put it and if they will both be in use and what power will be drained etc.
Easy enough to do though, looks like you're local to me, so give us a shout if you need anything Bodsys Brake Bible

Welcome Discodriver,
The following assumes you're talking about the audio socket rather than the power socket; ignore If I got it wrong!
I can't recall anyone doing this exact mod, but as Bodsy says, it should be easy. The only thing to consider is that when the aux socket at the back of the central console doesn't have anything in, it shorts left and right channels to ground to prevent any hum/buzz.
Other projects using extensions of the Aux wires use a non-conducting 3.5mm plug (probably plastic) that fits into the centre console socket (preventing it from earthing) and this allows the aux to be driven from elsewhere.

Transgenic tomato anyone?
You can do all sorts, it may also depend if you need it ignition switchable or not. I've put a 2 way unit in the lower glove box to run small stuff, and an extra socket in the boot run from an 2nd battery for fridges etc.
Ah, sorry i'm on about 12v

If thats no help, theres another link off it.The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Wow great responce, thanks everyone.
Sorry I should have been more clear, I was talking about the audio aux so I can plug my iphone in at the front without having to run an extension to the rear.
So as stapldm says I can take another aux to the front by extending each wire to a new socket but would need a plastic blanking plug in the unused socket at the rear.
Does that sound about right?

I tried running an extension but got the buzzing that was mentioned elsewhere. Now I just use a long lead and have it run hidden through the center console and right up to where the sat nav would be if I had one.
Which spec radio/CD unit have you got as if you are looking to have an aux socket in the front row of seats you could connect direct into back of the unit and put a socket into the dash console - several have done it with no issues !!

I have an extension cable plugged in from the rear now the same as 'Dave T' , I just wanted to do it a little neater.
'simoniz' idea sounds good, I think as far as I can tell I have the premium audio system (6 CD changer) if so is it a simple plug in connection behind the head unit?
Being a base spec D3 owner can only comment on the low spec unit - contact Wiggs who will advise you if its possible on the high spec unit ....
Another thought is to take it from behind the left hand side front passenger footwell kick plate, search for Aux connections and you should find the thread which is quite long as I recall but gives all the required detail.

I "think" TFC told me that if you put a Aux socket in the front glove box it would short out the rear built in jobbie?
