Are you sure that it is that straightforward? I don't recall anyone else having done it. Is there actually a permanent ignition switched live in the headlamp multiplug, I didn't think there was. The connector is C0009 (for the lh headlamp) and I don't see an ignition switched live on the wiring diagram so you would need to pull it from somewhere else. The sidelight switched supply to the fairy lights looks like pin 2 of the multi plug.
Edit - looks like there is an ignition switched live in the multi plug used for AFS headlamps pin 5 or 14, whether those pins have wires in them or not when AFS wasn't specified is another matter.

If it's just the power supply you need, there's a redundant connector behind the grill that is used for a polution sensor in some markets and many people have wired DRL's etc. to this. It's live once the car is awake I think and doesn't power down till it's asleep so it's always an option. Mods:

Yes I was looking for a feed that is used to power DRLs, and bridge this into the fairy lights power...

Depends whether you want to try and pick it up from the multi plug on the back of the headlight or run wires round from behind the grill as narpy suggests.

When I wired in my Phillips DRL's (MY2012), I found two wires in the headlamp cluster multi-plug that were live with the ignition on. The red and black one I used to wire the DRL's in as it went dead when the side lights were switched on. The other wire left the DRL's on when the side lights came on and came on when the ignition was activated. Nor very helpful I guess but it eliminates one wire for you. Just find the other live with ignition on. (orange?)

Don't forget to wire them via a relay (unless it's part of the kit of course) so that the DRL's are only on when the other lights are off.

Thanks Bill I will need to investigate.
Maplecottage, I will have the side lights on as normal when lights are on, but this has made me think about the effect of 2 feeds active at once

Happy to be corrected by others with more knowledge in this area but I thought it was an offence to have DRL's running with sidelights / headlights hence the need for the 'DRL relay'
Example:
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS UK LAW
Retrofitting
The requirement to fit daytime running lights applies to new cars only. There is no requirement to retrofit daytime running lights but kits are available if you wish to do so. Lights approved to the appropriate EU legislation will have an approval mark on the lamp which includes the letters 'RL'.
Retrofitted daytime running lights should be installed so that they come on with the engine and go off when other lights are turned on.
Manually operated daytime running lights must be turned off at night to avoid dazzling other road users

Lol, ok a bit of definition here;
My fairy lights are my side lights
I want to be able to have fairy lights (side lights) on all the time the engine is running
I want to find a power feed that may power the DRLs to also provide a source to the fairy lights, so when DRLs would be on, the side lights (fairy lights) come on too.
I want the side lights to operate as normal, which means they will be on when my headlights are on
So what Bill has discovered is that the power to DRL could also be used (in theory) to power my fairy lights (side lights)...

Thanks!
Justin
2 feeds in parallel will make no difference but you would need to separate them to stop both feeds controlling both sets of lights - you need a double throw (changeover) relay (5 pin) to do this or you could use diodes to prevent the current flowing backwards.
Are you looking for this?
Headlights off, sidelights on, DRLs on.
Headlights on, sidelights on, DRLs off.
You could just wire up the sidelights to an ignition-on source. Then switch the feed to the DRLs with a normally open relay controlled by the headlight feed.Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Ok thanks.
I don't think I need a relay because the end result I am looking for is;
Headlights off, sidelights on, powered by DRL feed
Headlights on, sidelights on, powered by existing sidelight feedJustin
If you hook up your DRLs and sidelights without a relay/diodes, your DRLs and sidelights will act as one, therefore, both on always.Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

But the point is the fairy lights are not DRLs anyway they are sidelights that Parallax33 wants on all the time (to look like DRLs) - therefore they are not bright enough to worry about them being on in the dark or on when the headlights are on because they are actually only the sidelights which would be on if the headlights were on regardless.
The legislation regarding DRLs doesn't apply - Parallax33 just wants his sidelights on all the time (which happen to be LEDs that look a bit like dim versions of DRLs).
As I said in an earlier post I think I have identified which pins in the multiplug Bill Wright is referring to.
