... if only because I hadn't previously known about C4 and C5 oils.

LOW-SAPS VS. MID-SAPS LUBRICANTS
C1 and C4 are considered to be low-SAPS oils, while C2, C3, and C5 are mid-SAPS oils.
Mid-SAPS oils have a reduced level of ash content. Therefore, they are better than conventional engine lubricants and are after-treatment system-friendly. Low-SAPS oils have a lower level of ash content than mid-SAPS oils and are designed to meet sensitive after-treatment devices.

I have 2012 D4 with SDV6 and 8 speed. 160k miles.
I’m doing 6 month oil changes and I use “Castrol MAGNATEC Diesel 5W-40 DPF Engine Oil 4L”
Hoping this will give my engine the best chance of lasting.Disco 4 2012 HSE, Nara Bronze

Are you unhappy with Castrol? Or do you wish for something more economical?
Can’t say much about prices in RSA in general but magnatec is here around 8-9 eur/liter and MANNOL Energy Formula FR 5W-30 7707, which I have used a lot recently, is around 4 eur/liter. The latter is ACEA A5/B5 API SN ILSAC GF 4 and fully synthetic. As long the oil claims to match WSS-M2C913-D you should be fine. -D is backwards compatible with A, B and C.
