Mutliple faults lit up the dashboard

Hi
after one week of happy D3 ownership the car broke down yesterday. I did an enginge spray/clean with the Kaercher power washer 4 hours earlier but was careful not to spray on any connections. When searching for fault I blowed everything with compressed air but no change in "error" behaviour.

Transmission fault
HDC fault
Electric Hand Brake fault
Reduced traction
Terrain response system unavailable
and so on...all types of warning lights on the dash - looking like a US christmas tree (no offense)

No gears will engage - the dash indicates a F where the number ususally shows up (in sport mode)

Anyway is there a standard check to do for major electrickery faults like this. Ordered a BAS remap/fault code reader from Pete last week hopefully it is in the mail today or tomorrow.

The car is TDV6 2007, HSE auto..... btw

Edit: bad manners - I forgot my name

thanks in advance

Fredrik

Engine spraying's not a good idea with D3s, it can result in what you've had! I'm a non techie dude so no idea if just needs to dry out or not.

Edit: welcome Fredrik, somebody should be able to help you with those codes. Thumbs Up

P0850 seems to be a park neutral error code.

Sounds like you have water in the transmission control module behind the battery .

You need to remove it and dry it out ( if your not too late )

The module has waterproof plugs / connectors ...but the main housing is useless ..just a bit of ali wrapped round the box

Thank you for the advice

Have done a hard reset - no change

No water in the modules behind the battery - not even a trace of it. I removed the battery, charged it with my CTEK charger. Opened all connectors and looked for water but nothing.

The battery seem like it need to be replaced - it is still being charged haven't looked at this morning but it didn't turn green/full after a few hours last night. (I know that my CTEK isn't a fast charger but still)

Unfortunatly my volt meter died so I don't know what juice the battery actually has.

I'll keep you posted and if anybody have another idea - let me know.

Fredrik

Sounds just like break switch failure symptoms.

So I'd check the break switch under the dash.

I had the my dash light up, and all the systems shut down, just because of a break switch fault.

Cheap and easy part to replace.

Check your rear brake bulbs first though, as they can also cause the same christmas tree dash effect, and are even cheaper to replace.

Here's how my dash looked!

Hi and thanks for all advice

A stupid question.....if all brake lights lit up when I push the brake pedal can I then rule out a malfunction in that area....and to be very clear by "all brake lights" I mean 3 lights.

My dash looked similar - I'll see if I can post my video recording of all fault messages

Fredrik

Unfortunately bulb activity doesn't guarantee the switch is ok.

For what ever reason, a failure in the brake lamp circuit snowballs into a mass system error on the vehicle.

If you do a few searches on it, you'll find other posts.

There was another forum member with a switch shut down on here just last month.

Certainly worth checking as a possible cause, although ideas around your washing and water ingress are very compelling.

You able to get the vehicle to a dealership or qualified independent service shop?

Did you spray under the front and rear arches also ? UK passanger side behine the arch cover is 3 connectors, and UK passanger side rear wheel arch are 2 bigger connectors. It soungs like a CAN connection fault possibily.

Hi

@Pete - I sprayed the wheel arches.....will check that tomorrow. BTW I will send you my ecu file soon - This issue kind of shifted my focus...

I made a bad decision the other night - I only looked at the outside of the connectors behind the battery. They where dry so I never bothered to remove them and look inside. Today I did and it wasn't pretty.
http://picasaweb.google.se/fredrik.olen/La...7526288114

I clean it with some sort of electrical spray, dried it but still the same errors. The amount of goo there tells me that it wasn't my spray that started it....

As I said no gears will engage and I remembered that there was a loud scraping sound when I select P after trying the other gears. It sound like the noise a bad gear change does with a manual - like syncronisation rings scraping...

I recorded it and will put it on youtube later tonight.

Does anybody have an idea on what the connection in this image is supposed to do - it was disconnected the first time i removed the battery, now I have connected it.

EDIT: spelling....
