Excellent to see the collective genius on the forum is nearing to find a solution to this, and on a Sunday too... a day of rest!

Had another look at the Car Builder sheet & it's probably the opposite way round to what we need - i.e. white on clear, whereas we want clear symbol on black background.
Had a quick thought though - there's a printer in the same business centre I've got my business in - I'll pop in in the morning & see if he could print a clear sheet with black apart from the lights-on symbol. He usually likes a challenge - I've given him a few before now!
I repair printers/copiers and was thinking I could probably print these onto a clear acetate type material with a black background, but ideally could do with hi-res digital original images, and an idea as to exactly what size the finished 'clear image' would need to come out at. as I said I am unfortunatly away on holiday for a couple of weeks but will look into this on my return if nothing else has come up.

Update - Just be careful doing this
Ok everyone, bit of an update after taking the car out today. The two needles that came out with their metal pins evidently didn't got back in quite as well as I first thought. In my case they were the fuel & temp gauges, but it could be any of them.
Basically it turns out there's a stepper motor that drives a small nylon gear wheel in the "needle motor" on the back of the PCB. It appears that the gear wheel (that the metal pin goes into) might move a little when it's stripped down. When I put the needles back in they felt to locate ok as per the Powerful UK video, but the needles didn't move correctly. In my case the temp gauge went up but not down & the fuel gauge sort of stuttered a bit, but didn't move much.
I was lucky & had the spare instrument console which when I stripped it down had two out of the four that the drive pins stayed with the motors & not the needles so it was simply a case of unsoldering the four connections & swapping them onto my PCB.
Think I'll call that a close shave.
Hope I've not built up too many hopes up but I'd rather be honest & let you all know my experience.
With hindsight (wonderful though it is), it probably is still possible to ease a 15W soldering iron tip to either side of the red LED & piggyback a normal 3mm LED onto it without taking the needles off & risk them not going back on.
