If you are on any other forums, you might want to "spread the word" so to speak since your outcome was successful. I often do that and then link back to disco3 for the full story.
It is more fun to write up a good save than a fix after failure.
And thanks for the update as well - it is nice to hear of success.2005 LR3 HSE 4.4L AJ-V8 petrol; Traxide Dual Battery; PIAA 2500K Yellow Ion H11 Fog Light bulbs; CounterAct LT-2 Capacitive Corrosion control; LLumar AIR80 Blue clear Infra Red blocking side window film; Liftgate manual release; Schrader Valve "air in" mod to OEM air suspension reservoir tank; Akebono ceramic pads; OEM solid vented discs; LR4 design hitch receiver; Wiggs D4 MOST bluetooth module; Clock on the Dash; 3 Flash signal light mod; Backup Camera; 2015/16 Nav Data update.

Just stumbled across this and thought I'd check, especially as I've just added a prospeed ladder to the left hand side of the tailgate which has increased the weight - right hand side was ok, popped the strut off, tightened a fraction, so greased the ball and socket and re-assembled.
Left hand side, finger loose unclipped the strut, thread locked it, re-tightened and greased it up - seems ok but will check it again in a couple of weeks. Feels like I need stronger struts now I have the ladder on, has anyone ever upgraded them?
I am still on my original rear hatch struts and they still seem OK after nine years.
This spring I had to replace my bonnet struts as they quit over the winter. Rather than genuine, I installed Stabilus brand as they were a few dollars less and still apparently good quality.
If the word upgrade means stronger, I think that may not be the best idea. I think struts are designed for various loads. Too strong means lots of effort when closing and perhaps popping open too quickly.
Units designed for the rear hatch and EU or NA manufactured will most likely be OK; far East manufactured are probably still a bit experimental - their time has yet to come.
....and congratulations on solving a problem before it became one.2005 LR3 HSE 4.4L AJ-V8 petrol; Traxide Dual Battery; PIAA 2500K Yellow Ion H11 Fog Light bulbs; CounterAct LT-2 Capacitive Corrosion control; LLumar AIR80 Blue clear Infra Red blocking side window film; Liftgate manual release; Schrader Valve "air in" mod to OEM air suspension reservoir tank; Akebono ceramic pads; OEM solid vented discs; LR4 design hitch receiver; Wiggs D4 MOST bluetooth module; Clock on the Dash; 3 Flash signal light mod; Backup Camera; 2015/16 Nav Data update.

Why do Land rover not recall issues like this? it seems like its effected a lot of people!
A recall or the like is only issured during the lease period - about the first three years - so that LR can go back to the OEM supplier and extract money. After that, the money is extracted from you.2005 LR3 HSE 4.4L AJ-V8 petrol; Traxide Dual Battery; PIAA 2500K Yellow Ion H11 Fog Light bulbs; CounterAct LT-2 Capacitive Corrosion control; LLumar AIR80 Blue clear Infra Red blocking side window film; Liftgate manual release; Schrader Valve "air in" mod to OEM air suspension reservoir tank; Akebono ceramic pads; OEM solid vented discs; LR4 design hitch receiver; Wiggs D4 MOST bluetooth module; Clock on the Dash; 3 Flash signal light mod; Backup Camera; 2015/16 Nav Data update.

As much as I like my D3 , I think it has suffered from too many faults and although generally small (apart from a turbo actuator) should not have happened.
I had a Mitsubishi shogun prior to the D3 and when I sold it at twelve years old, (1994:2006) had not suffered nearly as many faults.
I just do not understand why so many little nuisance things seem to fault on the 3. I can understand that given mine is a first production, (2005), but I am not certain that the 4's donot yet suffer still from the little stuff.
And that is the problem - it is little stuff; the drive train is pretty good; it is the little thinks that seems to cause all the fuss and rarely happen on nomal vehicles.
Maybe that is the answer - the 3 is not a normal vehicle.2005 LR3 HSE 4.4L AJ-V8 petrol; Traxide Dual Battery; PIAA 2500K Yellow Ion H11 Fog Light bulbs; CounterAct LT-2 Capacitive Corrosion control; LLumar AIR80 Blue clear Infra Red blocking side window film; Liftgate manual release; Schrader Valve "air in" mod to OEM air suspension reservoir tank; Akebono ceramic pads; OEM solid vented discs; LR4 design hitch receiver; Wiggs D4 MOST bluetooth module; Clock on the Dash; 3 Flash signal light mod; Backup Camera; 2015/16 Nav Data update.

We just bought an 05 with 50k miles, right mount was so loose it almost fell off, tightened it no damage
You saved yourself no manner of aggravation and lots of money if you had to pay a dealer to resolve the problem - they have experience but no cheap way of solving "the nut has dropped" reality.
Thanks for the update on the site - there are months of reading within and as with this thread, you will be able to resolve problems before they occur.
The left side strut can get loose as well but the right side is a guarantee. After tightening both mine up, I then undid them a bit and squirted some lock tight onto the exposed threads and then retightened - no trouble since and that was years ago.2005 LR3 HSE 4.4L AJ-V8 petrol; Traxide Dual Battery; PIAA 2500K Yellow Ion H11 Fog Light bulbs; CounterAct LT-2 Capacitive Corrosion control; LLumar AIR80 Blue clear Infra Red blocking side window film; Liftgate manual release; Schrader Valve "air in" mod to OEM air suspension reservoir tank; Akebono ceramic pads; OEM solid vented discs; LR4 design hitch receiver; Wiggs D4 MOST bluetooth module; Clock on the Dash; 3 Flash signal light mod; Backup Camera; 2015/16 Nav Data update.

Thanks for this, my drivers side was loose by nearly two full turns.
Santa definitely gave you a Christmas present. Once the nut drops off, the dealer gets the present. There is no easy fix to the problem.
Well the easy fix is as you did, tighten it before - and as is normal, it is the right side that gets loose first; the left side is less common but not unknown.
Have a Merry Christmas - per the jpg aove, today I am in the Canadian Rockies and my 3 is covered in a foot of morning snow - as it should be in a ski area.2005 LR3 HSE 4.4L AJ-V8 petrol; Traxide Dual Battery; PIAA 2500K Yellow Ion H11 Fog Light bulbs; CounterAct LT-2 Capacitive Corrosion control; LLumar AIR80 Blue clear Infra Red blocking side window film; Liftgate manual release; Schrader Valve "air in" mod to OEM air suspension reservoir tank; Akebono ceramic pads; OEM solid vented discs; LR4 design hitch receiver; Wiggs D4 MOST bluetooth module; Clock on the Dash; 3 Flash signal light mod; Backup Camera; 2015/16 Nav Data update.

It was good that you looked and even better that there was no problem.
I would say that at some time the fix must have been done and the thread lock is working.
