Fuel Economy
Following the thread about fuel/mile reader but has anyone else bothered to do the basic calculation.
I had a D3 for 3 1/2 years Manual and was getting 28-30 depending on what I was doing actual MPG (Gallons in the tank/miles done) not the computer read. It was however in line with the computer read out.
The new D4 is returning about 22.5-23 mpg. Thats a long way from the advertised figure. Bit concerned also that the computer is giving me 27mpg.
I've been told that it will get better as the engine settles down. Now have 5k on the clock and from what I can see its getting worse. Started out at 24.5 mpg, probable me driving easily at the start.

mines the same. Worked it out it was doing 22ish mpg and the computer said 24ish. Like you say its way off the combined of 30mpg that LR quote, and thats my issue. Not the cost.
My october build GS goes in for update on thursday, u never know there could be a tweek with the ecu map on there that could improve things.Cars:-MY11 Evoque SD4 Pure, MY12 Defender 90 XS & MY08 Evo X RS

Thanks for that. My issue also. The dealer said to wait until 10K was on the clock then they would have a look.
Thats a lot of £ when your used to a better return.
Knew I should have held on to my trusty D3!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone have a handle on the 2.7 TDV6 D4 mpg wise?? The D4 is only a facelifted D3 so the bragging from LR that the 3.0 will reduce CO2 & fuel burn seem not to be the case!
Discuss!

Since its the same engine as the D3 then the return should be similar. Theoverall vehicle weight hasn't changed dramatically.

I've been finding that for the sort of driving I do the computer tells me 25-27 mpg, tank to tank filling shows me 20-22. It's going in on the 29th for a software update I'll see what it's like after that. Still much better than my old Navara that used to just manage 19!

1st tank achieved 24.4mpg (brim to brim calc) whilst computer shows 27.4. Included approx 60% motorway / a-road and 40% urban. I'd expect this to improve as engine runs in, but not overly impressive

Fuel economy
I worked out today that Im averaging around 22mpg around town and on short distance runs.
I've not got a heavy right foot and dont over load the car, so im a little shocked at the figures. The car only has 800 miles on the clock, however the trip computer is showing 25-28 mpg as the average which isnt correct.
It may be the case that the car needs to settle in and i've no need to panic. Running costs are not the issue before anyone hypes up about this being a 2 ton vehicle, but I do like to think that the car will get around the book figures.
Spoke to local LR dealer (westovers Christchurch) and they are going to look at the ecu when it goes in for the assurance work next month. Will keep you posted, but would be interested in other peoples mpg's and whether you have experienced the same issue.

Same story here - I'm seeing 23-24 brim to brim, vs 27-28 indicated, and that's at 7,500 miles. OK, none of us bought one for the fuel economy, but in the D3 I could reliably hit or even beat the book figures by driving semi-sensibly, while in the D4 I can't get close.
I suspect most of the gains are to be had in the 45-55mph range where the torque converter is now fully locked up at much lower revs, and the torque on tap means you can run a gear higher than before. But that's just not real world driving for most of us...

Now I saw that somewhere there is a tyre calibration thingy you can do on the satnav (for when you replace tyres etc). I had this on my hilux and it always corrected the mpg to an acceptable level, so I used to do it every couple of months.
Don't know if it might help on th Disco?
