| Europe's highest unpaved roads |
|
So I know there is great discussion about which unpaved road is the highest but I'm not necessarily interested in which, I plan to eventually drive them all and ideally in my D4 no less 
So with that in mind, this being the greatest collection of D3/D4 aficionados; has anyone ever (or know of anyone) that has driven the Sommelier pass in a Disco?

the other one I liked in that area was Assietta very scenic and of course all Ligurian Alps are awesome

Yes, I'm a great believer in the same. My usual trick nowadays especially in Italy, Austria or Slovenia is to run TomTom to your destination but when it asks avoid tolls, say yes and as every pass is technically a toll (requiring a vignette) you get some rather entertaining gravel passes
The link to the RRS forum is amusing, not only was I in Piemonte last week (admittedly hot air ballooning rather than off-roading) and the majority of my off piste alpine driving has been in RRS'. It's amazing just how capable they are given the weight and the tyre widths. I remember one pass in Slovenia where after snowfall the majority of the locals where proper trekking to get over this pass down to a village the other side and I had to honk them out of the way as the scrabling sport (and driver) were determined to make it and as I passed all of there jaws where scrapping the snow. To give you an idea when I eventually reached the summit the snow level was about a foot higher than the roof line of the sport!

About funny looks...
On that trip, we stumbled upon a group of 7-8 off-roaders, Defenders, Jeep's, etc.
They waved at the 2 Defenders ahead of me, then they looked at me with a look like "what is he doing here?", like I did not belong there, they did not even wave.
Them, with fully equipped cars, raised, big tyres, strops, all the toys, big warm jackets, etc. and there I was, casually driving by, with winter tyres and short sleeves 
Same when we pulled over to let by a group of about a dozen Defenders, same looks and no waves.
Too funny

flydive - where can one go to do some mountain off roading in Switzerland
I know more than half the population has automatic rifles so rather be safe than sorry
