Disco 5 Fuel Diesel or Petrol

This may seam a strange subject, for me it is diesel every time, but having seen reports from the recent FIA conference on NOX particles and so many countries saying they will be banning all diesel vehicles from cities from 2020 fish, already many across Europe, The Mayor of London also saying he koans to ban all Diesel from the City.

I just ask the question of others. I am planning to place an order for a new Discovery in the new year.i live outside the low emission zone but do travel within it.

looking at the engines the 2L with 121gm CO2 is nearly as powerful as thy 14 discovery, the £l is very slightly more powerful, but with lower co2 of 189 gas, but move to the petrol and the CO2 goes up massively and the fuel consumption goes through the floor.

I am sure there are many with a view, but i was hoping there may be an expert from petrochemical industry who understands the issues NOX particles, and others with views on which way to go. i ma not interested in the running cost, but the ability to use the vehicle in the next 4 yeas, which is the correct way to go.

It's diesel for me, but I've never tried a petrol LR, also I don't drive into the city I use park & ride, a lot cheaper but if it's a concern for I think you should perhaps look at petrol.

Ideally though LR should have hybrid tech available now, they are way behind the rest.

Indeed JLR are way behind in design, engine options or even marketing the right engine for the right market (e.g. still selling DPF-equipped vehicles to very small islands). Add in the rather rediculous position of retiring the Defender with no replacement ready, repeating the RRS2 platform in a butt-ugly design with a neutered engine at a similar price-point whilst vacating the traditional price-point of the D3/D4 to their competitors, you have to wonder if they have lost the plot.

They seem to want the well-heeled to buy the D5 and drive it around the city, but offer an engine range that may make it persona non grata. If only they had a supercharged V6 to hand....

Petrol

Although struggling to get a delivery date estimate from my dealer for a petrol. Wanted a First Edition but can't have it in petrol which means spec'ing up a HSE LUXURY just to get similar with petrol which has pee'd me off and (amongst other reasons) making me look seriously elsewhere.

Really wish they had delivered a D5 Hybrid on release.

I've always had diesel but I only do 7,000mls max a year, so it's maybe worth looking at in the future.

In the US i've been driving a Hyundai Santa Fe 3.0l petrol, which was pretty good. As the D5 is almost identical to the Santa Fe I think the petrol would be a good option.
