My car is a 2016 3.0ltr UK model
I have purchased and have used this from Ebay.

Works very well and is easy to use. 6 ltrs exactly (dashboard dipstick showing full) sucked out with zero mess in around 3 to 4 mins. Not sure how long for cold oil. My filter housing was very tight – nearly reached for my long bar.....
I cannot give any info on cars before my car (2016) but there are no ‘special tools’ required to free ‘clips circled red’ on my housing. The filter just pulls out and the new one pushes in. Maybe there is some confusion as there is a proper LR tool available if you wish to purchase to pull out the old filter.

Really??? Are the dealer ‘techs’ not able to get it out without a special tool. Once the filter housing is unscrewed the old filter just levers out using two screwdrivers either side and the new one just pushes in.
The following is the torque for the 3ltr filter housing up to 2012 and sump bolts for the 2.7 and 3ltr

Why the paranoia about changing the oil so often? Did I read someone was changing at 6000 miles? That takes me back to running a classic 70s motor that needed such regular changes!

Surely, a decent quality oil lasts 15,000 miles these days?

In my experience on a diesel, oil gets ‘dirty’ (black) after a few miles drive immediately after changing it.
Do you change your oil more regularly to protect the crank? I know a lot of people to change their oil more regularly on here, and have seen reports of people still having catastrophic engine issues.

i dont change the oil just to protect the crank from failing but im sure its better than not changing it also i am mechanically sympathetic with my d3/d4 by that i mean i don't thrash a cold engine, dont over rev the engine drive smoothly and most importantly let it warm up every time you use it and by that i mean if the journey i do does not allow the car to reach normal temp then i will walk as obviously its only a short journey

For arduous conditions - presume that means driving through a desert and not driving to work.

Sadly the extraction pump does not work very well for the 2.7. Only seem to be able to get out around 3 litres using the tube down the dipstick tube. Spent an hour trying to get oil out. Is quicker just to drop the sump.
Would be nice if you could fit an extraction tibe to the 2.7 sump.

Reading this thread with interest specially using the fluid manual suction system but........

I don't think my D4 has a dip stick, oil readings from dash so how can I manually suck out the oil or is it a sump job?

You will have a suction tube on the D4 3 litre on the left front of the motor looking at it from the from. Should be along black cap. Just attach extraction device to this.
