Breakdown cover in France with caravan in tow. |
|
Anyone got any recomendations for break down cover, cover that will also cover me whilst towing the caravan round France. Obviously have the LR assistance but this does not cover issues with the caaravan only the car. Currently have RAC cover but this is £210 which seems a little steep. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Europ Assistance available via Insurance Brokers or via the web.
http://www.europ-assistance.co.uk/Template.aspx?id=14
You pay extra for the caravan cover as it provides breakdown recovery of the caravan.
As you have found, many policies only cover recovery of the caravan if the car breaksdown.
Only let down is to get the caravan cover you must first take the car cover but you can also add the Personal Travel Insurance.

Just make sure that if the caravan breaks down i.e. wheel bearing then they will bring the van back. Some offer cover for car and caravan but only if the car breaks down. I got a quote from green flag including europe that was 115 or 120. Alternatively try Mayfair through the ccaravan club. I got full medical and breakdown for the yr for 256.

I was told LR assist would move the caravan, but only to a local dealers premises if the D3 needed fixing, so not really any use. I use Europ Assist when heading for France.

When ever I go abroad with the car with or without the caravan I have used the AA, although I havn't been for 3 years, I can't recommend them highly enough, all telephonists are english speaking. The weight limit for the unit used to be T8.5.
I had a RR & van transported back from South of France after engine seized through overheating, took 3 weeks to arrive but it got here.
Another time front wheel bearing collapsed at Cambridge (no caravan), they fixed me up with a vehicle to continue to St Tropez, South of France with for two weeks holiday, collected my repaired car up on way back.
I had a clutch fail in Cornwall and they relayed me and the family back the same day. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Red Pennant from the caravan club. As the saying goes you really only find out how good when you have to use them. There really should be an extension of UK cover into Europe for a nominal sum. I'm off for several weeks this summer to France staying put mainly yet the cost of cover is is £141.

Hi
I can recomend Red Pennant. I had a blow out on the caravan in N,.Spain last year. I had a spare so that got me down to the S.Spain ok but I wanted a new tyre as spare for the return journey.
Anyway I tried all the tyre places in the Malaga area. Size not a problem but the high pressure 55psi was.
I phoned Red Pennant late on a Monday afternoon. "No problem we will ship one out from the U.K."
Same week on the Wednesday late afternoon, and the caravan site handyman arrives in his "buggy" with the new tyre. Now that's quick!!!!
Maybe not the cheapest but their service is great.
I had to pay for the tyre but the insurance covered the carriage.
Also in the U.K. once I was towing a boat trailer and the hub collapsed. Green Flag took the boat and trailer home no problem.
Cheers

Russell,
I just this week bought a single trip cover for the D4 + Caravan with the RAC (going to NL for 12 days) in August and it was £106.00 half what they quoted you
