United Kingdom 2014 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 XXV LE Auto Causeway GreyDiscovery 4

Having driven a 2016 D4 for the past 5 years I cannot believe anyone would need that MY mapping... Maybe it was my driving style (which is heavy right foot) but the car was amazingly quick for a heavy beast...

Now I am in a 2014 D4 with a Bodsy remap. That has brought the speed back up to (close) 2016 D4 level but I agree that it takes time for the real difference to kick in with new driving styles.

Whoever OEM mapped the 2016 D4 at JLR needs a medal. Awesome car.....

Very Happy

Yeah I agree, the EU6 SDV6 is noticeably quicker than the EU5.

I had my D3 remapped, but never felt the need in the D4's.

Evans Garage nr Dorchester are an Alive agent and can open the ECU on site like Disco Mikey. Not all agents can do this and have to send off the ECU to Alive HQ. I’ll be using Evans for the convenience Thumbs Up

I had mine done by Nick and his chaps and Evans Garage at Dorchester. Great service and would recommend it all day long.

booked in Thursday to go to Alive HQ but not going on the rolling road as I was assured they know what they are doing with the SDV6 Whistle Laughing

I should hopefully see some improvement on the 90 min drive home on dual carriageway and A roads and rest assured ill be looking for excuses to get out in it so I can bed it in properly Thumbs Up

Yep, had my '65 plate done in December.
Before - Avg 31.97mpg over 6196 miles
After - Avg 29.22mpg over 3413 miles

Nearly half of the before was on a long European trip so there was plenty of hot weather, long ambling journeys.
Otherwise, still a lot of long motorway trips and not too much short distance about town, but proportionally certainly more.

But the different in how it drives is noticeable. The take-off lag has all but disappeared and its even more effortless cruising along, plus it is surprisingly quick when it needs to be. Before it felt a little restrained and held back, now there's much more sense of it keen to press on.
Overall as I don't do a huge mileage the benefits outweigh the increased consumption, although there is a little bit of me that would like to see comfortably over 500 miles a tank a bit more often but I'm comparing it to a previous 330d BMW that would regularly see 650miles+ between fill ups, but it was averaging 46mpg+. It wasn't anywhere near as nice to drive as the Discovery is though!

well it went very very very very very very very very well Very Happy

staff at Alive were friendly and very welcoming, nice little waiting room and I was even offered a coffee.
I had to take the dog with me due to work going on at home and they are thankfully dog owners themselves there and were happy for him sit in the waiting room with me. There is an open grassy space round the corner to let your dog off for a run around and empty out too, which as I was there 3 hours the dog very much welcomed Laughing
nice set up they've got, with a very nice 65 plate Defender on the dyno for the day, I was just getting a bench remap done so didn't get it dyno'd, they also had their sponsored rally spec Focus RS up on the ramps which looks a proper beast.

now the important stuff....
90 minute drive home on country A roads and duel carriageways. The difference is like night and day from before the remap.
Its incredibly smooth under light or heavy acceleration, and just keeps pulling with no effort at all.
Its now effortless when driving along normally, with no hesitation from pull away or at any other time. Very relaxing to drive!
In normal 'D' its smooth but the kick down is faster to respond and smoother, I wont go into what its like in 'S' mode just in case there are any police monitoring this Whistle Rolling with laughter but lets just say its very quick and responsive.

i can well believe the Alive figures of 305bhp/640+Nm/7.0s 0-60mph and although my dash mpg wasnt under my normal driving conditions it still achieved 30mpg on the exuberant drive home, compared to 32mpg on the relaxed drive up there so a regular 30mpg+ of mixed normal driving compared to 27/28mpg before i dont doubt is achievable.

expensive to have done but well worth it IMO, it now feels exactly how it should have done from the factory. Thumbs Up

Good to know Rog, glad it worked out well. Thumbs Up

Would it be true to say that it is a much more noticeable and worth while mod for the slightly older D4’s and doesnt give you the same increase for a later add blue version as they are (like has been said) pretty nippy to say the least already? I did give a bmw M2 (IIRC) a surprised wake up a few months back as he pulled up on my outside at the traffic lights, although i did need to anticipate the slight lag hence sport mode, paddle shift, sand mode etc. Not my usual driving I must say but nice once in a while especially when they dont expect a 3 tonne lump to move like that Whistle

mines one of the first 255 8 speeds, registered in late September 2011, with almost 112k on the clock.
The difference it has made is almost unbelievable in every aspect although im yet to gauge the difference (if any) in everyday mpg

How do these compare with the Bell Auto Services (BAS) remaps? Our MY12 D4 2.7 TDV6 has a BAS remap that I applied remotely via the GAP Diagnostics IIDTool.
I did it before I ever actually drove the vehicle so can't comment on effect vs standard setup, but will say it's certainly not underpowered and achieves great fuel economy!

More engine/fan noise after remap

Hi all, I'm in Australia and have had my independent LR garage remap my 2.7 disco 3 with a stage 1 Alive remap. It goes better than before, fuel consumption is probably the same. The issue I've got with it is the horrendous noise coming from the engine bay after the remap, it sounds like the fan roaring for no reason when just coasting along, I'm thinking it's the way they've adjusted the throttle settings or transmission settings if they do that. It's not the sound of the engine revving, more like the fan roaring when under load but the engine isnt under load, it wasnt like this before and is too noisy for my liking. I'd hate to hear it coming down the street, sounds like engine is revving off it's tits but going nowhere fast.

That’s your viscous fan coupling.
It usually does this on first pull away in the morning. It’s a clutch and it locks up after it get going and quietens.

It’s either broken or the map has changed something…..
A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.
