I use the Castrol 5W40 Magnatec DPF oil, the specification states it is suitable for vehicles with dpf.
A very similar spec to the Miller oil

If I’m reading characteristics correctly Gary, then both 30 and 40 oils have the same viscosity at 15 degrees ( ie cold start?), but differ at 100 degrees. I presume the higher number means higher viscosity which means runnier ?

No, higher viscosity means less runny at operating temperatue (100 degrees)

The C3 5w40 has a far better performance profile with the manufacturer approvals listed being some of the most stringent in the industry. It’s an oil designed for very high performance engines with all the latest emissions equipment fitted.
I personally wouldn’t put the other one in my lawn mower with it being based on A5/B5 A1/B1.

have been using millers for a good number of years , even though I do low mileage I don’t mind spending £70-80 on oil and filter every year , peace of mind knowing it’s a good quality oil

So ordered my bits from opie, as always very reasonable
For 7 litres it was £50 but for another £10 got 2 x 5 litres of engine oil instead
So for the millers XF 5-40 engine oil, mahle engine filter and a pair of aero twin wipers was £100 which is considerably cheaper than a garage doing it as they wanted £210.00
Still beggars belief how dealers want roughly £600 + vat for a basic service and that doesn’t include the gearbox ATF, plus of course extras that there find

L'olio perfetto esiste?
In the endless search for the perfect engine oil, I came across the "LIQUI MOLI Diesel Tech 5w 40" C3 oil.
Comparing the viscosity characteristics (taken from the technical tables provided by the manufacturers and present on the respective websites) especially when hot, compared to Castrol 5w 40 C3, LUQUI MOLI has a few more points of viscosity when hot. This makes it more suitable for hot climates and efforts, as well as being a specific oil for diesel engines.
Anyone have opinions on this?

I have used this exact oil whilst traveling in North America, but in a Defender Puma Engine.
Changed every 7000km and had no issues at all, in very cold, but also very hot climate.
I also need to do an oil change on my 2016 Disco 4.
Mastertech, you say you are using the Shell Helix Ultra in your Disco, but this oil doesn’t comply with AECA C3, as it has a too high Ash content, or am I missing something?
I am using this oil in my TD5 engine, but thought it’s not good for the Disco because of the higher Ash clogging the DPF eventually?
Those are the oils available here in South Africa which found to be of good quality, but keen for better recommendations

I also considered the LIQUI MOLY 4100.
Castrol Magnatec C3 anche 4100 are the last two candidates.
I compared the characteristics with Castrol Magnatec C3 and I would say that Castrol has a viscosity index a few points higher than LM. But we are talking about 173 - Castrol, versus 169 - Liqui Moli.

Taking of that saw this the other day , don’t know if it’s the same spec , must confess do find it such a minefield
Been very happy with the 5/30 millers for the last 6 x years , so will be interesting to see how the 5/40 compares including the DB readings as will take them before and after changing the oil over
Also heard vavoline is supposed to be another good oil but of course all down to personal choice
