http://www.simex4x4.com/html/s02_article/a...amp;dsb=27 re importing General Grabber AT2 tyres.
$240-250
Check the site for a dealer near you.
They have a Cooper type 50,000km warranty.
Was getting worried I may have to put Wranglers back on mine as they are almost worn out at 25,000km.
Know what I'll get now. Laughing

18" A/T Tyres

When I was deciding to by my D3, I did a lot of research into tyres. 18" rims presented a real problem. I went to the Perth 4X4 show and spoke to every tyre distributor there. They all agreed that one day they will probably stock A/T and M/T tyres, but unlikely that they would get them in sizes that fit the wierd rim sizes that LR continually come up with.

Additionally, they argued that while you might get these in cities and larger regional towns, you would be hard pressed to get them out in the regions. Well most of my travel is in the regions, so this isn't much help to me. The end result was that the deal I made to purchase the D3 SE had to include 17" rims from the S model...which is what happened.

According to my dealer, people requesting the 17" rims is really common. So why don't LR respond and have at least the option of buying with 17" rims? The brake pack on the S and SE are apparently the same so there shouldn't be a problem. I understand that the V8 option in the HSE has a larger brake pack so that would be an issue, but sheesh, why not for the rest?

Anyway, 17" rims made it really easy to get tyres and I went with BFG A/T's this time, but I'm considering Mickey Thompsons at the next change.

Looks like the have produced the right tyre just in time for me. I was regreting not asking the dealer to swap a set from an S model when I bought, I'm sure someone buying an S would be happy with a free set of 18 inch wheels and tyres.

The latest information that I have, is telling me that this size is not due for production until February.
Please keep an eye on our web for further information.

This is the reponse I received from Scott Beaven at Dynamic Tyres today,
Does anyone have these tyres fitted yet? Is there another contact at Dynamic?

Hi Andrew,
I would be interested in hearing how the General Grabber AT2s perform offroad.
Cheers,

Desert Traveller is right, being produced this month, they are hoping for delivery early next month if nothing goes wrong. Mannell motors quoted for the 255/55/18s for D2s so I bet the price will be more at first as they have a monopoly on ATs. Evil or Very Mad

I had 255/55 R18 on for 5,000ks, they have slightly deeper tread to the 255/60 R18.

I recently did 800 ks along the beach from Noosa to Fraser Island, and as long as you had 20 psi, they gripped, and dug you out of trouble.

On the highway, I been up to 160ks, and they handle fine, with no increase in noise.

They look brand new, no noticeable tread wear, compared the OEM supplied Wranglers.

In the wet around town, they again not different under heavy braking.

When these need replacing, I will up grade to the 255/60, likely to be at 50,000 ks

One of our car club members has a RR Sport TDV6 which he fitted General Grabbers to for a trip up Cape York last year, the tyres went well on the hard stuff but when he got out around Birdsville in the sand, he found that they just dug holes and bogged the car.

He said it looked great on video, having four rooster tails coming up from the car wheels, however he just couldnt get up any sand hills that even toyota's etc found easy going, even so he said it was a lot of fun..
