My 1st Discovery recovery :(

Having driven 2 hours to collect my wifes nephew my car decided on the way home on the M25 that it wanted to dump its full tank of diesel on the motorway. I first noticed it when the back window was wet, I drove at bit further to try to stop somewhere safe by which time the distance till empty was going down like a countdown. Sorry to anybody who got covered behind me Embarassed

The highway officers and recovery man where brilliant, even as he had just washed down his truck and then my car dumps even more fuel onto his flatbed. Anyway the car is now outside my work feeling very sad for itself in a puddle of diesel. Upside is my 6 year old son got to ride in the recovery truck which he enjoyed, not sure my other passengers where so amused.

Anyway does anybody have any idea what it might be, the fuel was coming out very quickly, I have not taken the car off road so I have not bashed the fuel tank or snagged anything. Is there a pipe that can come lose as It was hard to spot underneath with all the protection plates, also the fuel was in the cover that protects the fuel tank so when the car moved it came out from all areas. Could the tank have rusted? Its a MY10 car. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you had the fuel filter changed very recently? This happened to me some time ago. Turned out that the new fuel filter had been misconnected. Just a thought.

Thanks, I have a MY10 so I think the filter is different, also I need to know where to find it as its all hidden under covers.

Another thought, do I need to change all the pads and discs as they are COVERED in diesel Sad Sad

The start of post tell you, think it's 6 small bolts to remove cover, very easy to do to have a look before garage tells you a different story and if it's there fault, they should pay for everything Thumbs Up

Yours is a spin-on filter, remove the plastic undershield tray, from underneath, looking towards the rear of the car at the left, (drivers side) there is a small alloy shield with 3x 10mm (IIRCC) bolts, take this off and the filter is ther, I'm sure there is a thread on here with pics.

Pads? you could probably clean them up, but as they are braking components for the cash, change them! Thumbs Up

Tin of brake cleaner will sort the discs out, but diesel on the tyres can see a D3 turn into Bambi on ice. Forum members have lost control due to a diesel leak.
