Mass Airflow Sensor questions |
|
My disco 4 has gone into restricted performance mode.
I have taken it to G&G automotive in Ware, Hertfordshire. They very kindly offered to put it on the tester machine thing and check for faults, it came back with 3 faults, MAF sensor and wiring. They did not have the time to fix it of look into it further that day (it's booked in with them in a week for a service)
My question is
1. Could I take the MAF sensors out and clean them
2. How do I take them out
3. I know I can only use MAF sensor cleaner - what's the best to try
4. Would this clear the restricted performance if it worked or would it need to be plugged into the machine to clear the fault.
5. Is there a how too on taking them out and cleaning them for a D4
Thanks in advance for any help & comments Mud Flaps - Slimer

There are 2 MAF's on the 3.0 engine, ideally, you need to check which one is giving incorrect readings, and test the wiring to ensure all is OK
You could swap them over, to see if the fault moves with the sensor, but would need done while still hooked up to the computer
Cleaning them will likely make no difference

If the D4 is same in this respect as D3, check you have fuse 17 in main fuse box under bonnet and it is not blown. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
