Rain sensing wipers (sensativity) |
|
All
Just wanted to check something ?
In a previous thread some weeks ago I I read that the sensativity of the front rain sensing wipers can be altered by the right hand window wiper stalk ?
Several folk seemed to certain about the function and at the time I too seemed to think that this was the reason my wipers may activate in the most annoying fashion,
After conducting (none laboratory tests) I have concluded that "MY" stalk actually controls the intermittent wiping action of the wiper on my tailgate (rear wiper)
From 7 seconds in the fastest sweep
To 27 seconds in the slowest speed
These timings are only accurate to the nearest second as they were conducted on an iPhone not a swiss laboratory time piece.
Has any one else got this
And why haven't I got rain sensing sensativity wishy wiper if I have rain sensing sensability ?

In some non scientific test (no admission of liability) the intermittant function is speed dependant. Get to about 85 to 90mph and it stays on continuous sweeps. Not that i've ever been that fast.

Oh,
I won't be trying that then
The last time I approached 90mph the Sherrifs revenue collection team caught me and gifted me 6 points and a handsome fine
Unfortunately that was under test conditions Only dead fish go with the Flow !

I had exactly the same results on my old D3... i.e.: the rotary control only alters the intermittent delay on the rear wiper. The front rain sensitive wipers worked well but there was no control of sensitivity.
Never got to the bottom of the original issue and many people on here said I must of been mistaken? However, on the D4, all is as it should be and works as per the manual.

Mine does both.
Un-scientifically proven, except by real world observation.
Though I think it only started doing it when I had the clock on the dash update done - but I can't be sure Mark.

Im surprised there's no intermittent front wiper option. My rain sensing wipers are next to useless when it's spitting and water can sometimes cover the whole screen before it kicks in.

I thought there was a fuse you could remove that disables the rain sensor and reverts to intermittent?

Whats the point of a rain sensing sensor if you have to sense the required sensitivity for the sensor in sensing the rain ? You guys just don't want to believe the science 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I'm still scientifically negligent with any proof however I'm sure mine are doing both but I can't seem to standardise this rainfall
One Minuit its spitting the next it's persisting it down ! Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Just following up on this... although I realise the last post was a while ago!
My sensor's didn't seem to be picking up when the windscreen needing wiping with enough consistency. Sometimes they we're fine, other times I had to manually activate them, because there was so much rain I couldn't see out - but they still hadn't kicked in.
Mentioned it at the dealers when I took it in recently for something else. When I picked it up, they said there is a switch which alters the sensitivity (low/med/high) and mine had been set to 'low'.
Sure enough, in today's rain, the wipers have gone bonkers, blatting away at a huge rate. So, I suspect they've now set them to 'high' sensitivity.
Does anyone know about this 'switch'? If so, how do I set them to 'medium' which would seem to be the sensible level - as they are now, I'm almost wishing I could go back to the low setting! D4 XS MY12 Galway

Luddite Alert !!!
Totally agree....I prefer the rain sensors that I was born with.....they haven't let me down yet....after 47 years,I can still tell when its raining .....and on another matter,I can also tell when it gets dark
is that the sound of a broken record I hear..... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I have my rain sensors and lights made posteriori (thanks geoff. ) and I can only say, and I am quite sure that the thread of control acts on the sensitivity of the rain sensor on mine, no doubt. As for the light sensor, takes too long to say that the tunnels shorts on and step to me ... I'll have a fine dark any day of these lost in translation!
