I know it isn't the original spec but, can i use an ACEA c3 oil in my D3 diesel? Isn't the c3 based on the b3 anyway?

Ok, for starters, the essentials...

Is the oil 5w30? If not, don't let it within 50 paces of your Disco.

Is it FULLY synthetic? Not 'pretend' synthetic. Do a Google into this & why the Germans have prevented this mis-description of oil in Germany.

C3 means it's catalytic-converter-friendly. My '06 non-DPF 2.7 TDV6 should have a B3 oil, so it gets exactly that - a B3 oil. I have always used Fuchs Silkolene Pro-S 5w30. This was recommended to me by Opie oils years ago. These guys really know what they're talking about. It is an extremely high quality oil. Much, much better than the standard recommendation.

Don't be misled into thinking you have to buy 'Ford Spec' - this older spec. is easily achieved by the best, latest oils.

Bottom line...spend a little bit more for the best, correct spec. oil. It's a lot cheaper than a new turbo, big end bearings, etc etc

You should be ok with a C3 5w30 fully synthetic, but I'd check with the guys at Opie. Quote from Oilman at Opie:

"Put simply, A3/B3, A5/B5 and C3 oils are the better quality, stay in grade performance oils."

Thumbs Up

TX for the reply. This was a bit of an emergency having discovered at 9pm that the oil is on the minimum and was leaving for France this morning at 8.30am! I had raced round all the local garages and could only find either a 5w30 fully synthetic C3 or a 5w30 semi synthetic B3. I wasn't happy with the semi synthetic and i wasn't going to run anything other than a 5w30. In the end i found a Eurocarparts open at 8am and got some Castrol Magnatec 5w30 fully synthetic B3.

I'll speak to Opie when I get back.

Sounds like a plan Thumbs Up

Your car will be absolutely fine with the 5w30 Magnatec B3.

Just depends whether you're a perfectionist or not like me Laughing
