suspension
i got my D3 v8 last month and she drives faultlessly apart from one issue that has started recently
i was driving on the motorway the other day and suspension fault came up, all special programs off etc. turned off the engine/started again and no problems. another 10 - 15 min of driving and same fault came back.
i have read quite a lot on the forum and found out that this issue could be related to the battery, which is tested and seems to be in OK condition as well as the alternator.
my obervations are;
- i hear a very short "hissss" after stopping the engine as i walk out the door. is this normal?
- when parking brakes were being replaced, i saw driver side air spring has a little hole on the bottom part of it. mechanic said, that piece just avoids dust, mud getting into the shock. by looking at different air shocks below, dunlop doesnt have that cover, so i guess mechanic is right, plastic at the bottom doenst actually hold any air??? or dies it? should i start replacing that orr ?

Hiss is normal, its the car "leveling" itself again. I will let others comment on the other fault, but worth checking battery condition.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

I wouldn't replace air springs just for a little hole in the gaiter ( it does only protect from water / dirt ingress). I might consider putting a blob of rtv sealant over the hole though Not sure about the electrical problem, you may just have to monitor that, and see if there are any fault codes if it becomes a regular occurrence.

how do i properly check the battery/alternator? it was my mechanic who tested but i wanna do it myself to see if there is anything he overlooked on the battery/alternator side of things.
re battery, i havent started the car for almost a month, came back home and started-thinking battery would be flat, but she started in seconds as if i had driven her day before whcih makes me think battery might be in good nick?

The gaiter will not be causing your current problems but it can be purchased separately and replaced without replacing the whole air suspension unit and might save an expensive problem later on.
I would recommend getting your fault codes read and putting them up on here and you will get lots of useful advice.

i hav replaced the brake swithc with a genuine brand new one but still lights will come up almost every 20 min
i suspect there is an air leak somewhere in the system hence doing the "#3 fuse out" thing in order to see where she sinks the most
also, i have measured the height in all four corners and results are different in each corner
front right 87
front left 88
frear right 89
rear left 90
not a huge difference, could even be due to tyre pressures maybe?
any ideas as to where i should look at next?
i ahve also purchased a faultmate fcr off a forum member, will get a new licence and see what error message i will get.

Mine is currently sat on its bump stops with a similar fault. I have the red 'wobbly car' symbol and also HDC/special programs off etc.
Mine is due to a faulty steering angle sensor apparently. My steering angle was giving 5640 degrees!!
I have a replacement (S/H ebay). Though I plugged it into the car without fitting it to the column to see if the car recognized a working sensor, but still no joy!
I think it needs calibrating and configuring. So its off to the garage on Sat to be left with them. Assuming i can drive it there!!Current: D3 TDV6 S; GGAT's, DIY 7inch Tablet mount, DIY Reversing Camera, Stage 1 remap, EGR delete

New AMK compressor sorted those very same faults for me. I still occasionally get the missing signal one but it doesn't case a warning light so ignoring that for time being. If you've still got the original compressor, it may look like this...
