Just shouldn't have had that thought - all fixed now! |
|
Filled the D3 up with fuel and when i got in it I noticed that the fuel gauge was reading 0 and the needle was below empty. I have had a problem with this before when sometimes turning car off and back on again makes the fuel tank read zero for no reason. Had a new fuel tank under warranty which has cured the issue. My wife is using the car now and noticed that the trip wa over 100 miles less than normal before the light comes on, 335 miles compared to 450 miles for round town only.
Anyway, left the petrol station and thought 'At least the turbo hasn't failed'
Engine system fault warning light on dash, and checked fault codes and got P132B which looks like turbo actuator fault. Must admit that it is noise on start-up when it does the actuation sequence and have noticed this when turning the car off as well.
Hopefully LR extended warranty wil pay for either new actuator rod or complete turbo unit. Only problem is I know my local dealer is extremely busy at the moment, but we are driving to the Czech Republic at the end of March and need to get this sorted and test the car out to make sure it is ok as I don't want to break down and be stranded.
Lesson learned; don't think! Alex

If you're lucky you could try freeing up the actuator. I had the same fault at christmas and got Geoff (site sponsor) to take a look and he sorted it out with a jiggle and liberal amounts of wd40. It's been fine since, I did repeat geoffs procedure a couple of weeks after just to be sure it was still ok. Simple enough to do, so long as you know where to look. Remove heat shield under n/s front wheelarch 3x 8mm nuts, with someone turning on the ignition you should see actuator moving or trying to move. Spray wd and either with a screw driver or a looped piece of hanger wire manipulate the rod until it moves freely and continue spraying wd40.
Obviously you're better off getting it sorted under warranty, but this might help for the time being

If warranty don't cover it then I can get it sorted at work if it is a case of freeing it off only. Will phone the garage today and see what they say and what they think LR warranty will want to do and or replace a font want to pay them to free something off when I can get it done for next to nothing.
New turbo under warranty would be nice though
I'm thinking that this could be linked to increased fuel consumption as very sluggish and holding in second gear most of tr time. Wife told me last night after I mentioned it to her that it had been ping this for a while!!!

My mpg dropped down to 16mpg admittedly that was with a bit of off road work and pulling a trailer, but never seen it that low before or since.
Good luck with warranty, new turbo paid for by someone else is the way to go

Spoke to local dealer who can't look at it until 11th March without a vehicle. 18th March with a replacement vehicle. Extended LR warranty will need my authorisation to strip and inspct and if they don't pay for the actuator kit to be replaced then total would be about £900.
Tempted to look at this at work to see if I can free it off, but can the actuator be replaced without removing the turbo?
cheers Alex

I believe it would have to come out but could be wrong. Definitely not an easy thing to get too. I'm praying mine continues to behave itself so I don't have to go down that road. Now I've got the hang of what to do will give it another spray later, 10 minute job, don't even have to take wheel off just raise suspension and jack up a bit 3 nuts spray replace nuts job done. Its also a good excuse to go out and give it some welly

Drove to work in it today and the nearside front brake claiper is sticking and would explain the high fuel consumption and shaking steering wheel that my wife has mentioned and then said how it stopped.
Dealer confirmed turbo actuator fault and has submitted a claim to LR (I have the select warranty) and now have to wait for the engineer to go and assess the car and see what he says. To be fair to them they have put down for the brakes and turbo actuator fault so we will have to wait and see what they say they want to do.
cheers Alex

LR Select warranty paying for turbo actuator and nearside front caliper . Brake pads and discs not being replaced by them as the warranty does not cover consequential damage.
Oh well, at least the failed parts are being rectified. Going to check the brakes tomorrow when the car is stripped for repair.
cheers Alex

Got it back Wednesday night and the wife says it is much much better. Great service from Harwoods Pulborough who managed to get it in, completed and back to me before my normal Edenbridge branch could take the car in.
New turbo actuator and nearside fornt caliper replaced on the LR Select warranty. Glad I took the warranty out now.
cheers Alex
