I assume this can be done with the wheels in place? I'd ideally like to back up on to my ramps (give me 18" extra height) while in off road height in order to get my head under there.
But obviously while it's up on the ramps, I can't take the wheels off.
So, can I relatch my module, roll myself off the ramps and then re-adjust the shoes?
I can't pull the emergency release (it's like it's already been pulled), with fault code C1A53 also stored I think my latch has come unlatched somehow?

If it sounds like this:
Then the module has become unlatched, or the emergency release has been activated.
If you unjam it manually, it should cure the fault.
That said, I have never seen it unlatch itself before 
Still, nothing to loose by taking the cover off and having a look. There should be enough space on a set of ramps, but once unjammed, it would be worth taking the discs off to check the EPB shoes, just in case My D3 Build Thread

It doesn't sound like that, while it does screech a little it seems to try and apply itself and unwind itself about 5 times before faulting with c1a53.

No good, can't even get to the b  d thing to get all the screws out while laid on my back, tried removing it from the mounting plate, made no difference, tried removing the mounting plate and sheared two bolts off 
knows why they didn't mount it the other way so you could sit in the spare wheel well and work on it 
Off to my Indy it goes! Been a while since I've had a £1000 bill,  2014 D4 XS

Hello
wondering if you can help me.... used bodsy bible replaced EPB shoes etc as one side was knackered due to broken hold down spring clip on a shoe (it was putting out masses of brake dust, but seemingly working ok). I struggled with bed in procedure, ended up with parking brake locked on and had to do manual release. I then had no parking brake, so stripped again and inspected - another broken hold down clip, changed all clips, adjusted shoes correctly again and all felt good, but I still have no parking brake.
Having read this thread I assume this is due to the manual release. However, mine doesn't make the same noise, just a gentle whirring for circa 10 seconds.
I've got solid orange light on dash and flashing red.
Do you think this is the same unlatch problem given I've not got same noise?
any help very gratefully received

...in addition (and this seems peculiar) just noticed that if I drive along at above circa 3-5 mph and pull the epb switch up the dash beeps at me and says the parking brake isn't functioning however it does come on and pulls the car to a stop. yet it does nothing when the vehicle is stationary (aside from you can hear the motor whir for about 10 secs when you try to apply it first time after ignition switch on, after this lights on dash on and fault message up)
I think perhaps I should have started a new thread now...

thanks DM, It seemed logically to be mechanical detachment, until I happened to check if the park brake worked while the vehicle was moving.
So I just wondered (before I spend a day taking the box apart), if it was detached inside the EPB module, would it still operate if the vehicle is moving!?

it was of course the unlatched cable inside the EPB 
however, I am having a devils job unsticking the brass looking rod - trying to hit it anti-clockwise at the far passenger side with a hammer on screwdriver seemed logical. wonder if you have any further tips?!

IT can be tight to unjam it. I have had a 4 foot lever against the floor of the car, with another 4 foot lever to help out, and it went with an almighty bang

thanks Mikey, I tried with a bar, but couldn't immediately find a way of getting it in there and also getting purchase against something solid. Also, the module itself didn't seem very secure - like you might bend it's mounts before you actually unjammed the shaft if you were trying to pry it - so I thought i'd try and shock it apart (shouting at it didn't work though  )

ok
does this sound like anybodies else issue. only get the noise when in low range and i pull the brake lever. then it does not release release and i have to manually release. once out of low range get the yellow light on and off and the hand brake works with no noise. 
got all the info and understand the process but one question. with the car on rear wheel ramps. the ignition off the brake automatically applies itself on. if i go through the reset of the epb what happens to engaged hand brake? might seem a silly question but just need the info before i start trying too unjam the brass rod.with me underneath the car today is like no other day!

Hi disco mikey have managed to remove the screws some advice on getting that cover off would be nice tried some flat screw drivers under lip of edge in bottom right corner and ouch the knuckles hurt when it slips!!!!!!!!
