Do faulty EGRs get better or am I kidding myself....
This week my yellow EML light came on, car went all hesitant and my BAS interface reported the fault codes for EGR failure, (P045C/D). Annoying, but not unexpected I guess. So, D3 booked in next week at local independent to get them looked at (mines an MY08 so they can't be blanked) and started driving the wife's car leaving the D3 to rest....
This morning, I went to move the D3 and the EML light went out. Curious, I took the car for a spin and the hesitancy was gone.. Falut codes are still there though (I did not try to clear them previously).
Is that expected? I thought that when the EGR's go kerput then that was that. Or could it be that they are a little sticky and will give-up the ghost again any minute now...Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond
Sadly Gone : MY08 D3 TDV6 HSE : Stornoway + Alpaca + Privacy + BAS Remap

Yes, they'll stick on and off for a short while if you're lucky, but it's a clear sign they'll fail. You can blanco yours but will get the EML back on if you do and fail its mot for it. Best to replace it I'm afraid. Bodsys Brake Bible

Mix 2 stoke (semi synthetic, low ash) oil in the diesel at a rate of 200/1 or or stronger(100/1) for the first tank full and go for a good run. Good chance it will clear them and give you more mpg.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

If it has logged a fault code, and the EML has come on, it will stay on until the engine management has 3 clean starts, with no faults logged. My D3 Build Thread

There was a previous thread about the spray. With some caution attached. Seem to remember somebody put some in and the engine reved alarmingly.

As with all things - follow the instructions !! It's not really a DIY product, is aimed at the 'professional' market but..........It clearly states that engine revs will increase, and it tells you how to manage that; can't blame anybody else if user is not prepared to read the info properly
Link is the manufacturers UK agent (trying to keep mods happy ) - up to you to source your own supplier (well known auction site ??)
There's also plenty of info / video footage on YouTube.

Thanks - the EGR cleaner looks like a good thing to try.
Sorry to be a dunce, but where exactly does this get injected on the D3. i.e. What do I need to dismantle on the D3 to spray it in ?Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

I've posted about Wynn's EGR spray in the past. It worked for me and rev control was not difficult - the wife managed it!
Whilst it did cure my problem I still blanked them 6 months or so later. Seeing all the crud that comes through the EGR system into the intake prompted me to skip the lot and fit a BAS blanking plate. For those who cannot blank then EGR spray, especially as a preventative measure, it seems a wise investment. The EGR system is designed to take dirty exhaust crud and chuck it back into the engine so its only a matter of time till the gunk blocks them up. Cleaning them is good!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
