Oh dear - that's when you want a front bumper winch! Had some fun in a defender 110 and some 'roads' in Zimbabwe a couple of years back when we managed to uproot a tree before pulling it out of a particularly deep corrugation with a winch. Fun. Glad I wasn't standing behind the car when the tree broke or I wouldn't be typing this email.
I reconnected my components just now in the order that fripsy suggested and still no life, so I think it must be that semiconductor. I see now I should have asked for soldering lessons on the forum before causing harm. Thanks for the advice on the soldering paste and the heat sink tweezers - I will do that on the replacement IC (assuming I can get one).
From what I can see on the top of the IC it is an A1385 (?) letters K44 are then printed below. Can't find a reference to any such component. Closest I can find is on EBay but specified as a '2SA1385' semiconductor - can that bed the one? Perhaps too hopeful but it does look similar.
Thanks again

Hi all.
New here, just scrolled through this thread. I installed the camera and need to do the brightness fix on my Disco 3, is there a photo of which screws to take out when removing the back cover off the satnav? I managed to get the satnav out, but chickened out when I saw all of the screws making up the back cover.
Hope this makes sense

Im ok with soldering, I got a bit worried about taking the back cover off, thinking there must be 4 or 6 main screws to take the cover off in one piece.
Do you really have to disassemble the whole thing?

I did the Range Rover and brightness mods on a change over switch as explained here.
I wired the camera to the reverse light, but when I put the car in reverse, the message "Take care when maneuvering" message comes up, but the screen stays black.
I also found if I go to the "CD" screen and try to change a CD on the touch screen, the volume button on the radio no longer works. Switching it back to D3 mode sort out the volume.
I accessed the advanced menu with the 753 password and the camera is installed.
I have a camcorder that has all sorts of ports, can I plug that into the video cable to see if it shows to determine whether the camera I bought is stuffed?

Make sure when you use the hidden menu the camera comes up under reverse camera.
Afraid as well you need to camera enabled in the CCF of the vehicle.
As for which screws - all of them need to come out AND be careful with the connector on the back. It connects to the circuit board and is Fibre Optics. I pulled too hard and broke connectors on the circuit board. Sorted with super glue!
As for CD etc. Just don't use the CD controls. Annoying but the camera outweighs.

Sleep is lock up and leave until screen on radio and front dashboard all off.
Or, lock up and go and have a beer.

car configaration file or the files in ecus etc that tell the car how certain things work same idea as the files in your computer tell it how to run and they can only be changed with the IID ,SDD, faultmate type tools but if you are going for reverse camera i would personally go for a gvif box as it does a lot more than just work your reversing camera tinted windows
led sidelights
new fuel pump
disco 3 sticker
4x4 screen unlocked ( thanks bell autos)
bell autos egr blanking kit
halo fog day running lights
ffrr sat nav hack
gvif reverse camera
clear side indicators
alisport intercooler hoses
