255/55/18 as a spare?

Well over 2 yrs ago I bought a set of 5 x 18" wheels and AT2's for my D3 as winter tyres. This is the third winter i've fitted them. Tonight swapping over the spare I noticed it was a 255/55/18 wheras the 4 fitted to the car are 255/60/18.

I'm not too worried about the weight rating, 109 is fine for the D4 it seems or if i lived in Australia and I'm only going to wear it i have a puncture. BUT what about the size, its a few inches less circumference so I guess it will drive the DSC mad like a flat tyre?

My question is am I better off with this as a spare compared with the space saver or should I get a new tyre as a priority?

Thanks for sensible advice!

Best wishes for crimble-time

Richard

that's an rrs tyre, I bet the rims are 18" Type 2 Mark 2's which were fitted to D3's and rrs's

When I was borrowed a spare wheel a while ago it was a 255/55r18 and mine were 255/60r18 I asked the same question and was advised not to run it due to the 55-60 part of it and it would not do the diff or other things technical on the disco, someone will be along with a tyre calculator so you can double check it, or if you fancy scrolling down the page or next there is a topic started by me and it has two calculators on the thread, would try and find it and put it on this thread but using iPhone hope this helps

it doesnt seem to affect it at all. I drove home on 3 265/50x20's and a 255/55x19 spare after a puncture. I didnt go mad, kept the speed down, and did about 15 miles, all was OK. Thumbs Up

Thanks Al but I've looked at the tyre size calculator in the wiki and there's only about an inch difference in the rolling circumference of your two sizes but just over 3" difference between my pair. I think a new tyre to the correct size would be sensible.

The 255/55/18 fit RRS? And the D2? As the AT2 is no longer available I guess there may be somebody looking for an unused one?
