What do you want to do now if you need new rims?
Well, that´s how I see it too !
I will indeed just take the tires unfitted, they will just go into my garage for later - That´s why I asked if they can be mixed with Michelins (in another thread), to ascertain if I could replace a pair of Michelins later when one pair wear out - One pair of wheels I am looking at come with Michelins, and one other set come with Wranglers - Anyway, I think I am just going to buy the set of wheels with Wranglers, then I can just use my "stock" later to replace worn tires, without issue.
My whole point of argument is that when they assessed the tires as "irreparable" why didn´t they realise the wheels were damaged at the same time and put that written on that quote, adding that to the quote a week later after the car is actually supposed to be finished isn´t ideal IMO. When they told me the replacement tyres were 600€+VAT (600quid) I weighed up that price VS 1200GBP for 4 D4 wheels with new tyres, I decided against the new wheels at that time for two reasons, because the wheels were in the UK and would take a week to get here, and secondly I decided to keep the extra 600GBP in my pocket - My bad ! Put simply, had I have been told that my wheels were damaged, then the decision would have been without doubt to just buy the 1200GBP set of wheels/tires.
In the event of 2 wheels being damages, I would prefer to have all 4 replaced with a newer model. Really don´t want to have two brand new wheels one side, and then have the old 2004 wheels on the other side, makes sense to just replace all 4 with newer style ones as an "upgrade" and just swallow the cost. The only D4 type wheels I have found come with tyres already on, if I could find some Genuine D4 wheels without tyres I would gladly look at them.
So basically now I have to shell our 1600€+VAT for 2 x 2004model wheels and Wrangler tyres, that´s nearly 1600GBP and all I get is new wheels on the right hand side of the car. It doesn´t feel like a fun upgrade.
They told me i needed new tyres after surveying the damage, they said they were not in stock that it would be a few days, I told them to just do it as soon as possible, they never asked for deposit or anything, I never even imagined they were some "special order" which not one of their clients would ever want.
In conclusion I am just going to bite the cost of the "Special Order" Wranglers and put them in the garage. That´s it. Am I happy about it ? NO. They should have done the quote properly in the first place and told me it was likely the wheels were damaged, then I could have made the right decision. If they didn´t know then I don´t know why I should have, they are paid for the dedicated experience/expertise and that´s another reason why I took a tire change to the genuine LR Garage over a generic tyre shop.

I agree that if they are a stock item then, notwithstanding any contractual element, it would be better to just take it on the chin and move on.
I would think that when ordering the items a contract has been formed. I am not suggesting that this is the case in this instance but sometimes the stance of the company is driven by the manner and conduct that the customer chooses to take when he wishes to withdraw from that arrangement.
They told me they would be there the next day.
They also gave me a written quotation which said nothing about the wheels damage or anything. Just said to replace the tires and rear brake pads. So I said ok, go ahead.

It may be that they have inspected the wheels further and found them to be oval or possibly cracked? Maybe they didn't know until they got the tyres off and had a good look? 2014 D4 XS

Is the damage to the wheels evident with the old tyres on ? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Hi All
Ive read the posts and as AJS says you now get customers to pay for goods upfront if it has to be ordered and it isnt a stock order as I have been left with goods I have struggled to resell and you can send them back but it costs you money in handling charges.
As reading the posters last post though I can see his point I would bet that the garage has put the new tyres on the original wheels and went to balance them and have discovered that the wheels are buckled but externally they will look okay as you will have discovered many times AJS
cheers

Hi
which part of my post dont you understand the bit about paying up front or the part about buckled wheels that is only apparent when you put the wheel onto the balancer and you can see its buckled but it looks okay of the balancer

why dont you just offer to pay their restocking charge
at the start of this you state that you would have been happy/ expected to forefit a deposit if youd paid it
so surely thats better than the £ position your now in
in summary you agreed to order it you should be willing to buy it or compensate them for their loss and time
if you think thats harsh and bad customer service try shaking on a deal with a tarmacer and changing your mind MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car
