Hi, Just a quickie. I had a D3 with 17'' wheels. I now have a D4 that has 18'' wheels. I think yhis is the standard size now. Question Do 18'' wheels from a D3 fit a D4.
My initial response is Yes but I herad LR changed them.
I need to know as I'm getting a spare set of wheels so I can fit AT's.
Thanks. Disco 1 200tdi, Td5 x2, Range Rover 200tdi, P38, Defender 90, D3 (05) D3 (57)

I thought that all D4's had 19" wheels as standard and an option to upgrade to 20" wheels. I also seem to remember reading on here that anything below 19" would not fit on a D4.

I believe the early production D4 & LR4 did have 18" wheels available. Later production models apparently received larger brakes and the switch to 19" wheels. Mine is a 8/2011 manufacture date and has the bigger brakes and 19" wheels. I'd like to be able to fit 18" wheels but they won't clear the brakes.

Frstly, I believe all D4's have the up rated brakes from the Sport. mine is a 59 plate D4 2.7 manual. I had to have this as they do not fit manual boxes to 3.0 engines.
However, it does have 18'' wheels not 19'', so clearly the calipewrs do not touch the wheel.
Be nice if someone can end the confusion though.

Must be the US spec version is different, because no 18" wheels will fit mine. They don't even have any 18" options available in the accessories brochure I got from the dealer.
I'd love it if I could use 18" wheels. A lot more choices tire wise over here using the 18" as opposed to the 19", even less for the optional 20".

The D4 2.7 ltr TDV6 was the only D4 that could take 18" rims. It would also accept 17" rims, as the brakes are essentially the same as the D3.
All 3.0 ltr TDV6 and V8 D4's will only accept the LR 19" rims or larger. The only aftermarket 18" rim that will fit is the new Compomotive PD1880.

Try this URL it come from a previous thread on here: http://www.comp.co.uk/news/detail.asp?news...3C%2Fb%3E.
I think these are 18 which fit the larger Disco 4 calipers, but without the need for spacers, and they appear to be only 8J not 8.5 which would certainly be better for cutting thru snow and soft mud etc. I don't think they are limuted production anymore either.

Clive,
Thanks for that info. If they truly fit the newer D4/LR4, I think you've helped solve my wheel/tire dilemma.

Hope it does help Stuart.
I spotted the thread on here, may be try searching for:- "PD1880 8X18 rims on D4 SDV6 3.0." Twas in the Wheels and Tyres section and around May 2011 I think.
Definitely seemed to imply that they fitted the bigger calipers and had become standard production items not JUST a few specials.
I suspect they must machine them a bit differently and perhaps include any necessary "spacing" in the design.
Must be worth a phone call.
Good Luck

As I helped design the new PD1880's, I can confirm that they fit all D4 models without spacers. The older design (pre Dec 2010) didn't.
