There was an article in yesterday's DT that said you have to inform your insurers if you change to winter wheels but I seem to remember from last season that this heavily discussed and after approaching various insurers, it was found not to be the case provided that the tyres fitted matched the manufacturer's recommended specifications.

Any pointers from someone who knows?

The Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme winter tyres are fantastic, our stock is holding up at present in all sizes. Thumbs Up

Thanks Robbie for the picture.

Bill Wright, I would assume as long as the size fitted is a size available on a wheel that could or would be fitted to the car when it left the factory, insurance should not have a problem. If the size fitted is on the door sticker and it does not have "for compertition use" on the tyre wall then i dont see how an insurance company can complain.

I rang my insurance company when I put my AT's on and they said that as long as the tyre was the same size and the same speed rating there wouldn't be a problem but it may be worth checking with your own insurance company. My nephew has a BMW 630i which has run flats on and he wanted to change them to non run flats because he didn't like the ride but his insurance company said it would void his insurance if he fitted anything other than run flats.
 Cheers Ian

Got my Wintrac 4 Xtremes on just over a week ago. Impressed by much better steering feel and crisper turn in over the Scorpions already even though temperatures are not really low enough to "favour" winter tyres.

Well I'm 4 days into the Wintrac experience and enjoying it. The 'hairy' tyres made the steering feel a little light at first but after a few days of use the tyres have scrubbed in nicely and now 'feel' better than the Zeros I removed. Less tram-lining and they respond better in the wet than the Zeros which, to be fair, only have 3mm of tread left.

So far so good; currently running them at 0.1bar above normal pressures. Thumbs Up

That's interesting; my LR dealer said run same pressures as standard.

The norm for winter tyres is manufacturers pressures + 10%. I run the Xtremes at 36/40 for normal loading

I have contacted Vredestein and they have advised to run the same pressures as summer tyres. Their email is quoted below:

"Our advise is to use the same pressures that are advised for your summer tyres. We wish you lot's of driving pleasure with your new Vredestein Tyres.

When there are more questions we will answer them gladly.

With kind regards,
