Time to change tyres.
Currently on Cooper Zeon 4xs which ride nicely and have achieved 34.5 mpg on a 230 mile run.
Majority of my driving is on road, going off for towing caravan into fields or on unmade roads, no really rough stuff. Also, would be nice to get a decent grip in snow as last winter.
Looking at various forum articles, Pirelli at's seem to be a favourite.
At the moment, until 20th Nov there is an offer locally, for 4 fully fitted (including nitrgen) Michelin Latitude tour 255/55/r19's for £176 per tyre.
I would like to get some advice from those members who know more than me on the pros & cons of tyres around this price for my type of use. Should I go for the Michelins at this good price?
Thanks, Graham

I had Michelins on a W Reg D2 V8 from new and they lasted for about 45 / 50,000 miles! Incredible wear for that car. But I haven't had any since to compare. D4 XS MY12 Galway

Thanks, Calc,
I've heard that they are long wearing tyres.
What is your experience on wet, wet grass and snow?

To be honest, they were new over 10 years ago - so are unlikely to really be very relevant today - but I do remember liking them back then! D4 XS MY12 Galway

The Pirelli ATR is the best AT tyre for road use as verified by Ken's tyre test and amongst many others consumersearch in the US, see this link:
http://www.consumersearch.com/suv-tires
The ATR is not as "macho" looking as some of the AT tyres, but should suit your needs well. Especially if you do end up in a field with your tintent after some heavy rain. They also performed very well for me through the last two winters.

We have 4 latitude Tours on our Disco. We gained about 3 mpg over the old GYs and they are quiet and seem to have great grip in wet and dry conditions. They were OK in the snow last year as well although I'm leaning towards winters this year. Overall, they have been a great road tyre. They have about 6.5mm tread remaining after about 25k miles and have worn very evenly.
I'd say that £176 fitted is a great price! -------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to run michelin-latitude-tours and I replaced them for something more AT. To be honest I never would of thought that going from a road biased tyre to all terrain would affect myh MPG so much. I've lost around 3mpg! The new General AT's look great and are much better off road but I will defininately go back to Micheline, I dont need AT's that much but I bought them becuase of the approching winter months and the fact I do woodland driving. 1964 Series IIA SWB Truck Cab - gone

Thanks for the interesting info so far.
MPG is important to me as 90% of driving on road.
Any more comments? If I go for Michelins must do it this week.
How do the Michelins compare to the Coopers I'm using now?

I fit's MPG that is most important to you I would stick with Michelin's.
Not anywhere near the best for off road use though.
Vey nice highway tyre.

Hi,
I used Mich. Tour during 40,000km and they weren't still dead. I just got bored of them (and the TOTAL inadaptation in even light muddy conditions)
On snowy roads were acceptable.
On dry conditions, good, but a little "fluffy" when cornering. Veeery silent and really increase a little the fuel milleage.
On dusty trails, a lot of dust got between the tyre and the wheel, causing air leakages.
No damages on "light" rocky trails.
Aquaplaning!!! IMHO when they were new, they were worse than my worn Goodyears on puddled motorways. Dangerous!! (Muuuuuch better the Grabbers AT2 - and I supose the new AT's still better).
On light muddy trails: terrible. Just like driving with slicks.
They still are in my parking.
If you still think of putting mainly road biased tires, I think the better option seems to be the Pirellis Atr or the Wranglers...
Cheers,
David.
