Not off a Disco but a family vehicle which failed MOT due to bent rim (inside edge). Not knowing what's possible, could this be safely repaired, or is it best to consign it to file B1N?

had something similar sorted by my local tyre fitter.
ISTR he used a copper mallet?XC90 T8 R Design Pro

Difficult to tell if it's just the rim, but looks from that angle as thoiugh the wheel has been knocked a bit as well.
Personally I'd bin that one.....
Don't know who's driving it, but woiuld you want to be responsible if it fails in the futures (especially as you've already gone and bought the replacement wheel.)Bodsys Brake Bible

I personally would scrap it. Alloy rims tend to fracture crack....especially when trying to get the dent back out..

there are a few companies with the correct machine to straighten without cracking. looks like it would easily mend
i found a guy in birmingham - google search alloy wheel straightening. but expect to pay 40 quid ish.
Like AJS say's fit a tyre and knock itt out with a dead blow hammer, copper or platic

I've not seen the UK machines that repair this kind of damage, but I've seen that select American ones use a gas axe to heat the metal carefully to a set temperature so that the straightening doesn't cause fatigue fractures, and then the wheel is tempered correctly so it retains its strength once cool. The heat means they always need stripping and repainting though. The jig looks like a slow speed lathe that has a hydraulic controlled wheel which runs inside the rim pressing outwards and gently 'hammering' the dent away on each turn.Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Even if you do get it straightened not all cracks are visible or external.

Audi rims are common for some damage and they fold not just the rim but further inwards and I would bin if that was the case.
Some BMW rims are prone to cracking also, what vehicle is it from? A used spare maybe the cheapest option.

wheels are designed around hooke's law (the linear aspect). yours has reached the point of permanant (plastic) defamation this is outside the design of the wheel from this point there is no real return for alloy wheels

your wheel has passed point 2 this may have caused internal fractures and strain hardening whilst annealing will help with the state (hardness) it will not fix fractures
if the rim has been damaged this much the spokes may also be hiding fractures
all in all BIN itIt is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
