Advice on complete removal of front and rear lamp guards |
|
Hi
I could do with a bit of assistance on this one please.
I thought that I had read on here that the D3 OEM lamp guards can be removed and that the holes that are drilled for them are behind the lights, so cannot be seen. It was my understanding that the guards may have rubbed the bodywork and therefore there could be some minor paint damage.
I am just in the process of purchasing a D3 HSE and I have asked the supplying LR dealer if they can remove the lamp guards for me before I take delivery, as we do not want them and may as well sell them. If they have rubbed we would ask them to refit for the time being but if not, we'd prefer to not have them on the car.
They have told me that they cannot remove them as we will have visible holes in the bodywork. Can somebody please clarify this for me? Am I stuck with them (unless I do some filling and painting!)?
Many thanks in advance!

Hi
there will be no holes to visibly see from out side the car but as you have already said there may be some rubbing damage the only holes that will be left are behind the rear lights these would only need to be sealed up
I hope this helps that is unless someone has tried to fit something else that shouldnt be there
cheers

Or they could have been fitted by Land Rover, without any felt tape, and now you have not just rubbing but rust blistering up where it's gone through the coating on the metal underneath
TIP: If you have lamp guards, take them off now, put plenty of copper grease on the bolts when you put them back so they don't sieze, and if they have been rubbing the paint, sort it out now while a quick polish or a dab of clear lacquer will do the job, and put some felt or silicon padding in between! Isn't hindsight wonderful

Perhaps they are not even Chinese copies of the real thing but some other sort of tat that is fitted in a different way? I think I've got it!!
Sounds like your dealer does not know that there are mounting brackets behind the light guards. Remove the guard and you see the hole in the bracket - remove the bracket and there is nothing to be seen!! Well, the sales people won't, as they don't do that sort of thing - especially if two weeks ago they were selling beds!
