Disco3 TDV6 Engine main bearing failure.
Our TDV6's main bearings failed on 140,000km. The vehicle was serviced at the required intevals by LR Dealers or accredited dealers. However, I am rebuilding (replacing the short block) it with the help of friends. Have you exoerienced any difficulties in rebuilding yours? Advice will be appreciated.

Hi bbaug no problems as such just remember to put all your blanking plugs in the new block before you start to rebuild, there's one behind the air con pump bracket its hard to see and easy to miss, the one part i let my old man do and he missed it don't forget to time your timing chains up on the cam shafts your see two different coloured links, when you torque your cams down i think from memory its in 3 stages 6nm 8nm 10nm your probably think that's not tight enough, but it is DON'T be tempted to over tighten them as there are no shells in the carriers.
also each part i took off i bagged up and put with that part, it made it so much quicker and easier when putting it back together again.
Head gaskets i measured piston protrusion and it came out the same as what i took off think it was 3 notches middle size.
Your need to strip this part
to get all the metal out of it but be warned its not meant to come apart you cant buy new seals for it,it only comes as a new unit but if your careful you should be ok
I got loads of pics if you forget where something goes or not to sure about something so if i can help in anyway just ask and good luck Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.

Disco3 TDV6 Engine main bearing failure
Woody32, thanks for the info and tips!! Thats a lot of metal coming from the oil filter/cooler housing! I guess one will be able to determine the head gasket thickness from the engine data stamped at the back of the block. That is if you can decode it.
I will definitely need some help, so thank you for your offer!
Kind regards.

Just remembered the head gaskets came with the new block, but they were different sizes that's why I measured piston protrusion Wanted D4s non runners pm for competitive price.
