Hankook Ventus ST RH06 v Kumho Ecsta X3 KL17
Size is 255/55/19 Load rating 111V
My cousin came over on Saturday. I originally thought he had 18" wheels with Vred Wintracs on but he changed his to 19" HSE wheels shod with Kumho Ecsta X3 KL17 so we swapped wheels. Mine were 19" HSE wheels shod with Hankook Ventus ST RH06. I've been riding on them all day yesterday. Did about 300 miles mainly on highway & A roads.
My impressions of the Kumhos are very positive. They're very sure footed on tarmac. Very quiet & comfy ride. Maybe a tad quieter than the Hankooks but definately softer ride. Looking at the tread pattern which is asymmetric it seems like the Kumhos are more of a road biased tyre, a bit like the Conti Sportcontacts I had on an earlier Audi Allroad. I'm a bit concerned that they might not cut it in the rough stuff though (not that I go there very often).
One thing which might bother some people more than others though is that they (Kumhos) don't look as cool as the Hankooks or even the Pirellis I used to have. But that is purely cosmetic.
My cousin tells me it cost him £460 for the Kumhos fitted whereas it cost me £440 for the Hankooks so not a lot in there.

I had to buy them online from Camskill.com & fitted by a local place. If you're in Hants a place in Fleet can get them but they couldn't supply as quickly as I needed.

I've just ordered 4 of the Hankooks from Camskill today, so they should hopefully be here in a couple of days
I'll report back on my thoughts once they are fitted 8)

Got a call from me cousin last night. Seems likme he prefers the Hankooks over the Kumhos. He says that they offer better grip in the loose stuff (gravel, dirt tracks). He lives out in the sticks so has to go through a lot of those type of roads.
Anyway we've agreed to keep each others wheels & tyres as I prefer the Kumhos on tarmac.

Thats good to hear as I live out in the middle of no where and the country roads I travel on everyday are covered in gravel

OK I've done 2k all road miles on the Kumhos & must say I'm mightily impressed with them. Quiet, comfortable, excellent grip & I think I'm even getting better mpg.
I'd recommend them highly if you're after a set of road tyres & they're excellent value aswell. Just need to see how many miles they'll last.
