Heater problems

Do you know how it all works ?, I've got hot air drivers side and only cold passenger side, and the dearly beloved don't like cold feet !. LR tell me it's the matrix, but also said there is only one, so how do we get different temps both sides ? Any ideas ??

Air con is off, and you can set the temp any where and it's still cold.

Possibly stuck on prevous setting? Sounds like a job for LRA.

Hi Landy27. Did you trace the problem because i have the same issue. Warm air on drivers side but only cold on passengers - regardless of where the buttons are set. I hope it was a cheap and easy fix!
Thanks. Neil
 Cheers,
Neil

Hi Neil, I've not had it fixed yet as the summer was coming ! (Ha Ha), I was told that the heater matrix was blocked and that a new one was required. To do this means the whole dash has to come out because the matrix is up under there. I was quoted £600 all in form Taunton LR to do it. This is the other reason mine still blows hot and cold. I don't know of a way to unblock it while it's still in the car. I'm sorry this is not much help, Cheers, Nigel.

Lots of thing it could be eg a blend stepper actuator...but carry out a self test to verify if a fault exists by carrying out the following test

Quote:
Distribution motor self-test

The motor and flap operation can be checked using the on-board distribution motor self-test function.

The self-test can be initiated by pressing and holding the ECON and RECIRC buttons while turning the ignition switch to the ON position.

The control module will then compare the current motor position with the values stored in the module and will indicate an error by flashing the ECON LED (light emitting diode).

If there are no errors, the LED will go out and the system will function normally.

To confirm that there are no errors, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, then back to the ON position.

Observe the operation of the programmed defrost LED.

If there are errors present, the programmed defrost LED will flash and the system will attempt to calibrate itself

Thanks for that DG, I will give it a go later and see what happens. I will post the result. I presume it will recalibrate itself if it needs to. Nigel.

I have in the past used the product for your heating system at home called furnox descaler, just drain the car water system down enough to pour it in and then just run your car for a few days/weeks then try a flush and bleed to rinse it out.
The new stuff on the market can be left in the system longer but I would not leave it longer than a week if you drive a lot of miles.
Never had any problems with the rubber hoses using this meathed. and a lot cheaper than £600.00.

Flack Thumbs Up

If the test didn't reveal any issues then you really need to get hooked up to a code reader to find out what the DTC's are to be honest. It could be a LH \RH sensor or blend stepper but the DTC should narrow it down.It does appear to be a distribution issue.

Crying or Very sad Carried out the test. Pushed both buttons and turned on ignition. The ECON LED flashed and there followed about 10secs of whirring which I guess was the motor(s) going through a self check routine. The flashing and whirring then stopped and the fan came on. Unfortunately still cold on passenger side. Turned ignition off and then back on (tried this both with and without still holding the ECON and RECIRC buttons pushed). The defrost button LED did not flash though under either condition.

So I guess this means I have some errors which could not be rectified by the self check but do not have some other errors. Either way it still doesn't work so I think I will have to get someone to check it with a diagnostic box.

Any chance that it is a fuse on some motor controlling just the passenger side? Just a thought.
 Cheers,
Neil

Final update from me on this issue which might help others. Turned out to be the blender motor. £70 for a new one plus fitting.
 Cheers,
