Scotland 2016 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 Landmark LE Auto Yulong WhiteDiscovery 4
My 2016 Landmark

A car I didn’t really expect to buy, yet here we are.

I had been looking at getting a new car and the OH and I had been discussing various options as the restoration of my Discovery 3 had been cancelled in July due to excessive rust on the underside of the body shell.

I think she knew I was going to go for another Discovery and offered to go 50:50 on it, as I had given her my Freelander 2 Metropolis to keep as we had a baby back in December and I felt better for her to be in a Freelander 2, than a 3 door Polo.

So the search was on for a 2016 model to meet Glasgows LEZ rules.
It had to have the spec that my D3 had and also the Freelander 2 Metropolis that I had bought nearly 4 years ago.
Ideally it would have been Santorini black with black interior. That was my first choice for a Landmark as they didn’t do it in Loire Blue, which is my favourite colour.

I found a few on autotrader in my budget but they had little red flags that made me not go for them.
Missed services, budget tyres, repeating advisories on the mots.

I had only been looking at trader cars for warranty and getting finance on them.
But since I wasn’t finding anything I liked, I had a look at private sales.

This Yulong pearlescent white, with black Windsor leather and grand piano trim caught my eye.
The 54 pictures in the advert showed it off and also showed off the comprehensive service history.
It had the right interior colour combo, it had my preferred alloy wheels and it was in a colour I could live with and truthfully i really like it now.

In the last 20k it had bills showing the cam belts had been changed. The 8 speed autobox had been serviced.
The brakes and handbrake shows had been replaced.
In April this year, it had Pirelli scorpion zero tyres fitted.
The mot history was good and a car vertical check confirmed it was legit.

A couple of emails and a phone call had a deposit left on it.
The seller explained he had a lot of interest in the car but I was the first to commit so it was mine.
He did have a guy call up later offering an extra grand over the asking price to buy it.
But I had my deposit in place and he was honouring that. I didn’t haggle on the price as the car was clearly in demand.

I had originally planned to get it trailered up via shiply but after my dad offered to drive down and back with me.
We made a date and set of for the 500 mile round trip to bring it back to Scotland.
It was a car that had clearly been looked after and the history showed a lot of care had went into keeping it in top condition.
It definitely doesn’t feel like a car with 110,956 miles on it.
The drivers seat for example is in superb condition for its miles.

Being a Landmark model, it’s loaded with pretty much all the kit Land Rover could fit to them. I do have a few things I’m going to add to it though.

It does need a few minor things.
Fresh plates front and back.
An alignment as the steering wheel is a tad off centre.
A good clean and detail.
New landmark badges for the doors.

Before winter I plan to get it Dinitrol coated underneath to make sure it doesn’t suffer the same fate as my old D3.

My plan is to fit the off road kit from my D3 to it.
Add a few personal touches and enjoy it.

Its going to Harris next May with my Land Rover club so the large boot will be ideal for 2 adult and a 18 month old toddler with all the kit you need for one.

I’m going to refit most of the off road kit from my D3, some I’m looking forward to and some I’m dreading.

Fitting a Safari Snrokel isn’t fun, but it looks good.
The front runner roof rack will go on.
I have most of the Prospeed under armour kit, so that’s all going on to the underside.
I’ll get the front sump guard for the 4.5 to complete the set.
The Prospeed rear ladder will be fitted.
I’ve a travall dog/cargo divider to fit, a boot liner and an easy lift kit to go on.
I’m going to fit the 4 pot brembos from the D3, once they have been rebuilt and repainted in Yulong white, I’ll get the rear calipers and carriers done at the same time, again in Yulong white.

Future plans involve an Alive remap, an alisport intercooler if I can find one and some Lazer Sentinel spot lights and some AT tyres.
 In loving memory of FA54WSK.

Rest well old friend, your work is done.

Wonderful!

You may change your mind on the remap, the later EU6 engines felt so much more powerful than stated. Thumbs Up

Nice looking motor AJM , I have a 2011 white Landmark with Black trim,Never thought I’d go for white too but do love it now, Like yourself also brought private , A one owner from new with a good full history, Only thing I’m not a fan of is the diamond cut alloys on this year’s models as they start to go patchy in areas but do like an original unmolested motor , Great choice Hope it serves you well, Enjoy Thumbs Up

It definitely feels a very healthy engine, it pulls very nicely and surprisingly doesn’t drop a gear on the motorway when wanting to get up to 70 from lower speeds.
But a mate had a remapped D4 and it was rather quick.
The Euro 6 engines can make even more apparently.

Yeah, the FL2 has diamond cut wheels and they are all corroded so I didn’t want the diamond cuts on the D4.

I hate ACC, so that’s not getting fitted. Laughing
The rest of the kit is, because I really like discos that are all kitted up.

It’s a lovely car. Its surprising how much of a step up it feels from the D3 and mine was a well maintained and tuned car.

Its had some of the D4 quirks fixed but not all.

Afaik the manifolds are the originals, likewise the front lowers and rear upper arms.

I’m due a refund from the garage that were going to sort the D3 and I’ve a list of parts that have been taken off that I’m going to sell on so I’ll put that into the slush fund for any repairs.

I hope it treats me as well as the D3 did.
