| Awful squealing when steering. |

Hello people.
I've searched this all afternoon and have just totally confused myself.
I have recently fitted another engine to my discovery 3 all went well.
During the replacement I fitted new water pump , oil pump , cam belt kit , all tensioners including the aux belt ones and aux belts.
Before I removed the engine this problem I now have wasn't there.
The discovery starts up fine and runs a treat but ,
As soon as I move the steering wheel there's an awful sqweal from the front of the engine area.
It does it on idle and when driving
The fluid is topped up and at the max level and doesn't loose any
And the steering is nice and smooth. Not notchy or heavy. So pointing me that the pump is working.
I used dextron 3 fluid as that's what my local auto factors supplied me to be the correct one ?
I have been advised it could be the over run pulley on the alternator sticking / seizing ???
Any help would be greatly received.

I would hazard a guess at belt slip, have you routed the belt correctly?
I doubt the spec of oil will make much difference.

Have you bled the coolant correctly? That would be my guess. 
There are two bleed points: one in the expansion tank and one at the top of the engine, at the front.

Would the coolant cause the noise to start when I moved the steering wheel ?
I've driven 120miles in it in the last 2 days. Temp hasn't moved from the middle of the gauge and the coolant is at its level all fine.
If I Rev the engine it's fine , as soon as I move the steering wheel with increased revs it gets louder.

To me, it sounds like a PAS pump cavitation problem. You sure it was DexronIII they gave you?
I'm pretty sure that DexronIII isn't specced for the D3, but a Pentosin fluid instead.

Defo dexron 3 , was thinking about going to the stealers tommorow getting the genuine fluid and replacing it.

If you've got mixed fluids in there, you'll probably need to do a total flush to be safe.
Geoff does power steering flushes, perhaps a PM to him to find out what fluid he uses?

Afternoon guys.
Went to land rover this morning and got 4 litres of there own power steering fluid.
Run all 4 litres through the system and the fluid is now green as it is in the bottle it come from !
But it's still squealing!!
I've taken the belt off and re fitted to Double check for sieges pulleys but all feel good. The tensioner is brand new is is fine.
I'm lost with it now. It certainly sounds like the belt slipping but I'm sure it isn't.
Anymore ideas ?

I haven't.
The noise only appears as soon as I turn the steering wheel. When stationary and moving.
It's silent when idling and revved. The tensioner is brand new ,
Could it be the belt a bit stretched ? Or is the power steering pump on its way out ? Although the steering is fine ? I'm lost with it.

I'm no expert, but taking I'd have thought off the belt and trying the steering will eliminate the belt being the problem if the noise is still there. If no noise with belt off then belt or pump would be most likely suspects.

If I remove the belt then the steering will be solid as the belt drives the pump.
I might replace the belt and tensioner as its the cheapest easier option just in case the tensioner I have is dodgy.
If this fails then the pump is next.

Is there only one belt length?
Are all the new engine pulleys the same diameter as the old engines?
