Ticking sound

Help!

I had a routine 25 thousand km service 2 weeks ago. Until then I have had no problems at all.

Last night I detected a very easily audible persistent rapid ticking sound coming from the D3. It seems to be coming from the left rear. The sound is electrical in nature like a switch of sorts opening and closing many times a second. It is also variable in frequency, speeding up and slowing down all the time. It stays there whether the ignition is on or off, and regardless of the suspension setting. I can't hear if is there when the vehicle is running as I am in the front seat at the time Shocked

Any idea what this is??!! Neutral

Seriously though... sounds like it might be a faulty relay... is there one in the rear light clusters for the reverse sensor or trailer electrics? (Just a guess trying to make up for the previous post).

Are you sure its at the rear? I had exactly the same happen to me last week and after about 5 mins of searching i found it coming from under the driver seat. I unplugged the wiring harness to the seat and it stopped, plugged it back in and off it went again.

Yip, definitely from the rear. Somewhere near the electronics behind the left rear air shock.

OK, now it gets weird. I lost the "beep-beep" for the alarm remote central locking. Then a few hours later the alarm starts sounding while I am driving Shocked Laughing Neutral Then I have to park with the alarm disarmed to prevent incessant beeping Whistle , then an hour later.........all back to normal; alarm works, and no ticking WTF?! Evil or Very Mad

All ok now....for the while... Whistle

"beep-beep". You know, the alarm chirps once for lock and twice for unlock, well ok here in SA anyway.

You guys don't have a "beep-beep"?! You can't be serious. Laughing

Anyway, any body know what this ticking/intermittent alarm dysfunction means?? Some sort of faulty connection perhaps? Are the alarm electrical elecronics/horn in the left rear? Neutral

I don't have the beep beep either, but I'm pretty sure it's a user-programmed option, so if you want the beep beep (or want it off!) take a look at the manual (I think you can set it to use the horn).

Sorry to hear about your electrical woes, I'd definitely take her into the stealer.

OK, all sorted. The problem has nothing to do with Land Rover SA (so they say....), but has to do with the satellite tracker system installed on delivery. Here in SA the hardware for a tracker system is installed on all new vehicles, and can be activated by the purchaser if he/she choses. The system is somehow linked to the alarm and LRSA say that the sounder for the alarm must be faulty. LRSA are not allowed to service this as only the Tracker (navigational tracking company) personell are authorised to do this.

The rolling back issue was sorted out with some or other software adjustment. There was no problem with the torque converter.
