Dean (Hardware) is the person to talk to about getting your bonnet open if the cable is broken. Send him a PM (Private message), and he will advise you, as it is not the sort of info we want posted for all to see (eg car theives).
I posted on your other thread, re the hard reset. It involves disconnecting the positive terminal from your battery and pulling it over to the negative and touching together for a approx 10 seconds. There are people on this forum who are far more knowledgeable than me in terms of car electrics, but I think touching the two terminals together on a D3 fully discharges the system resetting the various ECU'S. I think you need to wait 5 minutes before doing this with key removed from ignition so the the vehicle goes to sleep.
Someone may care to clarify this properly in case I have it wrong.
Cheers Blake

I have seen this 5 minute to shut down several times and have even had interior lights shut down after that time.
However if that is the case it would be the shortest time for complete shutdown that I have experienced on several cars. I would leave it for at least 25 minutes personally.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

The workshop manual says to allow 2 mins before disconnecting the battery, but I think that is more about letting active processes end. If you sit in the car listening to the radio it will stop at about 12 mins (from memory). I think there are a range of different periods for different processes and probably even some long term ones, with everything eventually shutting down to leave just enough power for the door-locks.Previously:

Once the handbrake light has extinguished in the instrument cluster it's asleep.
If you open a door after that some modules will awaken again. So ign key out, close everything, (except the bonnet ) and wait till the handbrake lamp is out.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
