2.7 HSE fuel consumption. |
|
On Sunday, in my Discovery 3 2.7 HSE, I made a 400 mile round trip, with the equivalent of five adults on board. It was mainly Motorway driving at a steady 70mph. I achieved 27.1mpg, which I thought was a bit disappointing. Today, I drove differently. An approx 45 mile almost all Motorway round trip. I locked the car in 6th on the Motorway and drove at around 55-60 at around 1,500rpm. I was pleasantly surprised to achieve 35.8mpg.
Are these the sort of mpg figures to be expected from the car?
Thanks in advance.

I'd say about right. Solo motorway trips I had seen mid 30's on a couple of occasions. Loaded on a run late 20's maybe just about 30.
They are circa 2.5 tonnes empty and somewhat brick shaped, drivetrain will add to the consumption too

I'm not overly concerned with fuel economy anymore since fitting, bull bar and winch, snorkel, roof rack, 270 plus single awning, dual battery system, cargo barrier, mounted air compressor and 2nd air tank, 265/65/18 all terrains - not much hope for economy, still pretty good for all that and sometimes get below 10L/100klms.

About what I get with my 2.7 RRS (which is, AFAIK more or less the same beast in a different coat).

Just checking, are these actual calculated MPG figures or readings from the car's computer?
Car's computer tends to give optimistic readings in my experience, by 3-4 MPG.

The figures I quoted are through a spreadsheet, however, the cars computer is optomistic by around the same amount.

My Disco 4 3.0 has a average of 30mpg, I can get 520 miles from a full tank, I would be interested to know if anyone is getting higher with a non ad-blue model, this is a calculated number also, trip display can read as high as 37mpg!

Ive never understood why people buy a D3/4 and wonder about fuel consumption . If its an issue, its the wrong car for you, best get a Honda Jazz like Del. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)
No longer the Old Buses original owner
231,000 miles and counting
05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
IID BT
BAS FBH control

Well Land Rover thought the UK market cared about fuel consumption otherwise they would have put the petrol V8 in everything. For me it’s a case of knowing what the engines doing. Having a baseline of what’s normal can help spot issues coming on any car.
