New Clutch - No drive after 100 miles |
|
Hi Guys
2004 Disco 3 Manual
Me again, dad is currently sitting on the side of the of the M25 with no drive after 100 miles of a new clutch and DMF.
He has no drive forward or back in either high or low ratio. Clutch high or low ratio. The clutch allows gear changes perfectly and the only notable problem apart from loosing drive was a strange noise coming from the gearbox area about a minute before stopping.
The only way he can get any movement from the vehicle is to have it in gear and whilst turning the engine off let the clutch out resulting init lurching forward. The poor guys has literally been without a vehicle for 4 weeks waiting for this to go in for the Clutch change then this.
I have told him to get it recovered the 60 miles south back to the garage that did the work but he has a 3 ton trailer on the back and the trailer needs to be in the north so unfortunately he's made the decision to get recovered north and deal with it there.
Thanks in advance for any help, hints and tips
James

Not sure I fully understand you.
Is there no drive or inability to change gears with engine running?
If latter, put it in low ratio 3rd and start it in gear. Should at least get it off the motorway. .

My 300tdi Disco sheared the pin of the release arm a couple of weeks after a gearbox rebuild. Sounds similar. .

Evening gents
He's now off the motorway hard shoulder and been taken to services.
Clutch pedal works fine, gear selection works fine but zero forward or reverse drive and just a strange rumbling when the clutch is let out in gear.
The only way of getting any movement out of the vehicle which which is just a jolt forward is if the clutch is let out after turning the engine off.

05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres

I completely agree, unfortunately there is no telling him. He's going to take it north to Lincolnshire and deal with it there as he's fed up. He only had the work done on the south coast because he was down seeing me when the clutch went then got stuck for a month whilst he waited for the work to be done.
He's now been moved to Thurrock services and is sat there waiting for recovery North... 18 hours and counting.
He's a practical and machanical guy so once home will look at it, anyone got any ideas what could have gone wrong. I don't really know the setup but I am assuming either
Gearbox
Transfer box
Hub
Propshaft
Or some how the pressure plate came lose but I would imagine that would result in clutch slip opposed to loss of drive over such a short period of time.
Am I right in thinking if moved to low ratio it would lock the front and rear axles eliminating propshaft or hub ?

I have seen, but only once, the clutch plate centre separate from the outer
The splined part the site on the shaft had come away from the friction surfaces
To all intents and purposes the pedal felt fine and seemed to operate but didn't drive the gearbox at all

Hi
Thanks for the response, I do wonder if it's something like this. He finally made Lincolnshire after 28 hours of being into the Disco. Tomorrow he is removing the belly pan to see if there is something obvious but I am not confident.
Thanks for all the advice and will keep you posted.
