Compressor overhaul.

Hi all,
I'm thinking of starting this in the next week or so. Been busy getting it ready for mot doing other things.. Track rods, rear calipers, pads, front rubber hoses both sides, drop links... Had height recalibrated but still seem to be getting the intermittent orange light and the venting gallery error. It's a worry for the mot if it comes on or stays off so I'd rather sort it.
I have a few questions,
If I remove the cover is the compressor make and Id easy to see without removing it from the car. I don't want the car down waiting for stuff to arrive..
Why do people sell relay switches with new compressors.. I'm not interested in a full ebay replacement but I'm interested why most sellers advertise the relay switch as part of the package for a new compressor..
I'm going to follow simons process on YouTube from powerful UK for removal and refit
.. Is the overhaul generally successful or is a replacement a better option in people's experience.
Cheers
Rich

Use google to find images of both so you can identify it, good practice to replace the relay with the compressor.
Hitachi's are easy to rebuild but AMK's dont have much parts available.

Unless it has been changed previously the 2005 should be Hitachi and as LoneRangie has said, plenty of kits available. If Hitachi, get kit with metal end cap for media cannister. Life after refurb is possibly three years. I have a spare compressor which sits ready to go in if my current one fails.

Cheers for info.
3 years is a bit crappy.. Is that using a bag of desiccant as a replacement. Are there no better options such as buying a prepacked replacement dryer housing and doing an exchange of that.
Is there a kit where everything is included such as the chassis clips and John guest fittings or are they extras.
That's a good idea to get a spare unit as well. Would you advise oem used working or a new aftermarket.
Thanks
Rich

As long as the motor lasts you'll get more than 3 years, i have more than that on a spare i picked up.
My original which lasted 10years is rebuilt and is carried under a rear seat just in case, you replace more than just the desiccant but a more regular refurb of the drier will help it last longer.

I would dispute that - if done correctly a refurbed compressor will last as long as a new one - my refurb was done 6 years ago and still going well.

The total life of the compressor is now 15 years old. Still using the original housing, motor, piston, conrod and everything else not included in a refurb kit. I am still using the original relay - noting if it does play up you can swap it with the one next to it to get you home.

Hitachi Cyl head torque requirement?

Does anyone know where I can find the cylinder head torque requirement for the Hitachi compressor?

Just snug it down, it doesn't need much.
