Anyone had Avon AX7/Cooper ATT and Duratracs
Hi,
Yay, another tyre thread.
Time to change tyres. Currently got AX7 and Discoverer ATT tyres (both the same tyre just different name).
Toying with Duratrac but can't see the EU info for the tyre as it's an AT so exempt i presume.
Has anyone ran both tyres and can they give me their opinion on them please?
Not been let down by the Avon's/Cooper's but toying with change.

Had also considered Duratecs, but speed rating is Q versus V on my AT3s....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

It's more the fuel efficiency and road handling, especially in the wet, that concerns me. I tend to waft about and worry more about how much fuel it's chucking out the back.
The AX7 and Discoverer ATT are C rated for fuel and wet. Got to say, they handle fine on road. The tiny bits of off road I've done (muddy camp sites, round the edges of fields) they've been fine but Id like chunky looking tyres provided they're ok on the roads and not horrendous on fuel.

The Duratrac doesn't have an EU rating as it's now classified as a POR tyre and thus exempt. But from memory from when they were rated, I think they were E/E/74.
Plenty of AT tyres have an EU rating if you prefer a rated tyre.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I ran duratracs for 2 years, never had any concerns on road handling, can be a bit more noise than less aggressive tyres.

I must say, I do like my current Cooper ATT/Avon AX7's. They handle and wear well, albeit i've knocked the shoulders off the fronts hence needing replacements, they seem fine off road too for the level I do (not very extreme at all). I haven't got stuck or worried I was going to get stuck.
I just like the look of the more aggressive tyres and find myself getting tyre envy when I walk past a Disco with them on. There was a disco in Flamouth docks last week or so when we were away and I'm sure he caught me staring at his tyres.
My mate has Cooper STT pro'son his defender and they look amazing, they're just noticeably noisy.

Is it a case of style over substance?
If you're happy, then I'd stay as you are. I recently changed the tyres on my Defender to Wrangler AT. They're OK as 'official' spec tyres, but I'm already looking around at alternatives. Basically, they're OK, but there are better out there. I've even looked at changing wheel size to get the AX7s again.D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

I too am a fan of the AX7.
12,000 miles on a mix of surfaces and all is positive. Increase in road noise noticed when on really smooth surfaces.

I've put the Wrangler AT Adventure (silly name) on my RRS as the previous Pirelli AT+ was becoming impractical. I've found the Wrangler to be a good tyre. Certainly no worse than the AT+ or the Grabber AT3 on the road (indeed, probably better) and in the little bit of off road (muddy tracks and grass fields) they've been as good too.
But they are quite "blocky" and more all-terrain compared to some of the more road-oriented ATs and that's likely to colour perception when compared on road to those others.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Hi guy's,
I have been running on Good Year Duratrack for the past 3 years. Now, it is time for me to change those rubbers.
I am not happy with these tires. I have been reparing holes on all 4 corners. They just puncture way too often for me.
Road handly, noise, and off road grip is very good though. D3 TDV6 for holidays use,
D3 TDV6 7 seater (parts for sale)

Haha - Interesting as I've just changed to Duratracs from Grabber AT3's for exactly the same reason...had 3 punctures in 2 tyres in the last 6 months!
I attributed it to the fact that the rubber is now getting old (over 3 years) and worn and it's a heavy car so don't think it's tyre/brand specific.

Just replaced my Duratracs with Duratracs.
Been on 6 years just shy of 60k can't fault them, they still got 4mm ish of tread on them,
