Front Crank Seal

Hi all,

Looking for some advice, just in the middle of swapping out the cambelt and oil pump on my discovery. Do I need the special tool to get the crank seal on or can I just push it on. I have the tool to make sure it’s seated properly but forgot all about buying the other one. I’d rather wait till I get one delivered than destroy this seal and risk an oil leak.

Thanks
Paul

Most economical solution likely to be to buy a Victor Reinz crankshaft seal. Not to use, although they are Ok, but because they come with a simple tool to fit the seal. Edit. )Described as a funnel in the tube video). Unfortunately AF factors no longer seem to list these. Approximate cost was £6, plus carriage, against £144.90 being quoted by AF for the official tool.
More details available by searching this site.

Thanks for the info, I’ll order up a seal with the tool with it, is the best seal to actually use the Corteco one that Advanced sell or am I better getting a genuine Land Rover seal.

Thanks
Paul

You don't need any special tools, just clean the end of the crank til you can eat off it and use the plastic gear holder from the new pump to slide the seal in place.
Then reverse it and seat the seal correctly.
