Railway sleeper ramps

Looking at 125mmx250mm sleepers to make some ramps. I’m thinking just two stacked would be ample. has anyone else done this?

I used to use a sleeper to raise my artic truck a bit when servicing, at approx 8,000kgs it was slightly heavier than your Disco, but did the job, so my view is that it would work.

Just make sure you put the wheels in the centre of the sleeper.

Here's a pic - works really well! Disco has no problem walking up the steps in low range!

These are 2.4m sleepers - I cut 80cm off each end then stacked and screwed together.

Looks good. I'd add a small bit of timber at the end of the ramp too, to act as a small bump-stop just in case you pull forward too much.

Be wary of these in the rain - even treated Oak can get very slippy when wet and you won't want the Disco to slide off them! Is your drive perfectly flat?

Yeah I’m keeping these dry. They’re really long so not worried about going off the end. It’s very easy to get up these at super slow speed. Drive is pretty close to level and flat.

I've done similar in the past.

As above, add a bit of wood as a bump-stop to make it easier (and safer) and chock the wheels on the ground. Thumbs Up

Brilliant. Thats's just the job. Thumbs Up I need to replace the air tank on my daughter's D3. You're only just down the road from Bath and I'm free this weekend. Laughing
