D3 and LED trailer lighting

Rewiring my small (unbraked) cargo tailer.

It is a bit either/or as to which way to go but reading some threads on here are basic LED trailer lights not compatible with the trailer circuits on a D3

The trailer only gets a significant amount of use so there is little power demand benefit to use LEDS but the fixtures tend to be sharper and a bit brighter.

If you're rewiring it, then just add a couple of motorbike bulb indicators on the front of it.

So it's just the indicator sense circuit that has an issue?

Just put resistors on the indicator circuits of the the trailer lights, if you plan on towing other things its worth making up a pulse buster box to wire into the disco.

Putting resistors on would appear to be the simple solution, however, they can get very hot and generally they will come from China and be of suspect quality with regards to longevity.

By using a bulb, if they were any problems, it would be a simple visual inspection, as opposed to getting out the tester and/or replacing the resistor to see if it was at fault.

Sure you can use a filament bulb or just fit lights with bulbs but that defeats the benefits of LED's, for about $50 i built a box with resistors and relays and assembled with thermal glue and a switch to turn it on and off. For the few seconds that the lights flash they barely generate any heat.
This is a more elegant solution befitting of these machines but as they say, many ways to skin a cat.

Or just buy this and then you can swap from trailer to trailer ...
